Maybe to help cheer up the mood around here.
-Oct 9, 1995 Chargers and Chiefs fans will forever remember Vanover from his 86-yard punt return in overtime against San Diego in a Monday Night game in Kansas City. 29-23
What a game indeed, I think this has to top the list.

-Oct. 31, 1999 - BrandsMart awarded customers a total of $425,000 when the Kansas City Chiefs held the San Diego Chargers scoreless in their Oct. 31, 1999 game at Arrowhead Stadium. 34-0

-Sept. 17, 1998 Ryan Leaf went 1-of-15 for four yards with two interceptions at Arrowhead and never has been the same since. Chiefs win 23-7

-Dec 24 2005 SanDiego Chargers 20-7

-Oct 17 1993 at San Diego. Montana coming back from 17 down. Got a concussion on the game winning TD. He never saw the TD but still had his arms up in the air like he always does. That was an outstanding comeback.

That game rocked. I was here in San Diego at the time, and just getting a grip of shit from a bunch of my friends that were all watching the game. Until, Vanover popped that for a TD in OT. They just shut up and left quietly, it was a thing of beauty :D Ahh memories.

As a matter of fact, I'm sure the Ryan Leaf meltdown was not in 2000. Derrick Thomas died in early 2000. He was on the defense that did in Ryan Leaf. I think the 2000 game was the game that rookie Sylvester Morris had 3 touchdowns.

I'm pretty sure that was Marion Butts that ran all over the Chiefs that day. Still, it wasn't the defense that was the problem. The offense couldn't score. I think the final was 17-0. I think Natrone Means was drafted in like 1994.

Looking back on it now it's pretty funny actually. Perhaps the most pathetic all-time performance ever by an NFL QB, at least we got to witness it. On the bright side, it led to us pushing him and GM Bobby Beathard out the door so I ain't complaining!

History is on the Chiefs side. QBs playing their first game at Arrowhead have done extremely poorly. I know Rivers has been there a couple times but not as a starter.

In 1996, the Chargers got up on the Chiefs 28-0. I was at that game. Best tickets I ever had for a Chiefs game. Down on the 1st level about 15 rows back on one endzone. It was really, really cold. We left about the time the crowd started cheering for Gannon to replace the suckiness of starting QB, Steve Bono. Gannon led the Chiefs to a couple late and meaningless TDs. Final was 28-14.

Same thing happened to me when I watched it last night. Started going bad during the Chiefs last drive in regulation, other than that it worked great, and I was able to get it back up in time to watch OT.

The Ryan Leaf game was back in 98. He went 1 for 16 for 4 yards and KC won 23-7. It was raining most of the day for that game and SD's only TD came on a long run by Natrone Means.

That 42-10 game was in 2000 and that was the game that Sylvester Morris caught 3 TD's.

The 34-0 Brandsmart game in the 99 season was pretty sweet. The game in 93 when we were down 17-0 and came back and won 28-24 was pretty memorable as well. The SD game that still pisses me off is that game back in 94 when we dominated the whole game and ended up blowing a 13-0 lead and losing 14-13. Montana drove us into FG range at the end of the game but couldn't get the ball spiked in time.

I was in error....

Chiefs defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham always has a few unfamiliar tricks ready for rookie quarterbacks. He concocted some things for Chargers rookie Ryan Leaf for a 1998 game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs gave Leaf such a beating that it might have set the tone for his dismal career. -KCStar 2 weeks ago
