The movie was awesume.....I saw a few minutes of last weeks show and wasnt impressed much. Knowing NBC's history, i doubt it will last very long.

In the early 90's there was a show on NBC about Texas High School football as well. It was called "Against the Grain" I thought it was pretty well done but it only lasted one season. It actually starred Ben Affleck in a supporting role

I don't watch the show, but I think the coach played the guy in Early Edition that got tommorow's paper today. I liked that show. Too bad it was canceled.

Do any of you attend high school games between good teams? Those little bastards hit really hard!!!

I assumed it'd be like the OC or 90210 with a little football thrown in. If the CP consensus is that it's good, I'll have to check it out.

It is VERY good. It's got some soap opera stuff, but the football story lines are very well done, and the center of the show. I think being a series lends itself to the spirit of the book better than the movie.

Plus, two of the High School girls (both over the age of 20 IRL) are hotter than donut grease.

It can't be doing very well...

It got moved to Monday this week right in the middle of MNF...

Talk about what I don't want high school kids acting like. The commercials are enough to tell me that this show shouldn't even be on at the 7:00 hour.

I like the show, riveting. I think the reason it was moved to Monday is that it is doing well and can compete.

It's Melrose Place with some mention of football here and there.

It's a great show. It's nice to have one or two shows on TV that aren't about fighting crime or operating on people.

with MNF?

Hasn't MNF been getting amazingly high ratings?

Sounds like it'll last one season, at best.

This is the main reason I watch it. A little variety is nice. It does get a little soap opera like just with the one love triangle story line, but I like the football story lines. Nice to have something on that looks a little more like real people than usual.

Anyone know if ratings take into account the fact that lots of people don't have to choose between two shows anymore? With dvr and multiple signals, you can pertty much watch anything you want at the time that's convenient.

Or do nielsen families still have big boxes made to look like furniture with one dial turning to just the three big networks??

Uh, no. It's nothing at all like the movie. This show is a soap with a little football thrown in. I've only watched it a couple of times and I've heard this coach apologize to his wife about 18 times.

The storylines of "FNL" are way too contrived and predictable. A prime example: The white fullback might as well be a card-carrying member of the KKK when it comes to his feelings about black people, while the all-state, all-star, guess-what-color-of-skin-he's-wearing halfback doesn't care much at all about crackers (and I'm not talking about the ones ya eat with soup). Gee, ya think there might be an episode where the FB decides to repeatedly and intentionally NOT block for the HB? As Bugs Bunny says, "Hmmmmmmm...COULD BE!"

Yep, that's him. I liked that show too. It reminded me a little bit of Quantum Leap--except that QL's purpose was to right things that had gone wrong in the past, and EE's was to right things before they went wrong in the future.

No wonder the coach let the local riff raff push him arround on his QB decision.

The previews were enough to make me not want to watch it. The movie was sexless, just about football. I'm sick of the sex crap on TV with high school kids.

I was disappointed with it to say the least. Too much soap opera type stuff. After they had an entire episode without a football game, I quit watching.

I agree...

Who didn't see the stud QB getting injured week 1? I mean, it's friggin' predictable...the play-calling is terrible, and when Sarason came in and won the game after the stud QB left the field on the stretcher...they were on their OWN 20 yard line...one play left...somehow the QB scrambles to his oppenents 20 yard line (that's a lot of ****ing scrambling) and then throws a 40 yard pass to a guy wide open who scores a TD (but has to run it in another 25 yards...

IF THAT PLAY ISN'T THE MOST UNREALISTIC PLAY IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS...

Is it your opinion that a competing station just gives up? I was always of the perception that they would put a competitive product beside a heavy hitter.

I mean, is it too much to ask for one football game per week, and the game itself, should take up at least 25% of the hour.

It depends on the demographic you're trying to reach. When MNF or SNF is on, you've lost the 18-34 and probably the 34-55 male crowd, no questions asked.

I would say, I read the book for the first time a few weeks ago, and it was excellent. Beyond excellent, I can see why it's been turned into a movie and TV series (I haven't watched a second of either, wanted to read the book first), although I'm guessing neither touches some of the things the book does. Great profile of small town America, but it does touch on a lot more than football.

I thought the movie sucked...

They threw an incompletion...and then they flashed the game clock, and it was still running...

I hate little things like that, bothers me immensely.

Plus, the hits are unrealistic. You don't see that shit in high school football...people are flying from all directions delivering hits NFL players would be jealous of.

I know it's a movie but come on...

I also hate that they are wearing equipment that is obviously state of the art (for now) when it was supposedly taking place int he late 80s. Anachronisms drive me nuts in a movie more than just about anything. For some reason they are completely distracting to me.

I love the movie "Rudy," but the anachronisms in that movie drive me bonkers.

That's why the movie was good in the first place, it IS more about the town and the people than it is the sixty minutes on the field. It's about football's relationship with the community. That is precisely what makes it good; there's always a real-life game on somewhere if all you want to see is the game itself.

I think the show has been fantastic. It could be about any small town, like Webb City, Mo. or someplace like that.
