View Full Version : ****OFFICIAL World Series Game 1****

The Cardinals and Tigers, two of the most traditional franchises in baseball history, split a pair of seven-game classics decades ago. St. Louis' Gas House Gang got the best of Detroit in 1934, and Mickey Lolich pitched the Tigers to a comeback victory against Bob Gibson in '68.

This should be a great series.

Both teams are animal named, so my mojo is muted.

68 was the first year I was really aware of sports (turning 8 that year and all). That was a great World Series. I didn't realize these two had only played each other two times in the Series before.

Should be a great series..rematch of Willie Horton against Bob Gibson..

Special thanks to Ari for starting this climactic thread

Even though I'm a Cardinals fan, I am agreeing with a friend of mine who's saying Detroit in five. I hope he's wrong, but I doubt it.

Go Cards...get one.

Rookie pitchers who would have predicated that with all the rest Detroit has had.

I must say I like St.L's lineup tonight. If only we didn't have Encarnacion in there :banghead:

As a Royal fan/Card hater, I hope the Tigers sweep.

It's safe to say Scott Rolen has found his swing. Endy Chavez wasn't bringing that one back.

It's safe to say Scott Rolen has found his swing. Endy Chavez wasn't bringing that one back.

I think that he's found a way to compromise with that fatigued shoulder by cheating at just the right time. He was cheating too soon or too late in the Mets series (lots of foul ropes and weak pop outs), but his last 3 ABs have been right on. If he can keep this up, Pujols becomes exponentially more dangerous as the series goes on, because he'll have real protection in the lineup.

The funny thing is that the Mets owned us above the belt in the LCS...wow.

True. I'm guessing the Tigers saw that and thought they'd do the same.
Good hitters like Pujols make the adjustment.

I wouldn't have given him a decent pitch to swing at in that situation though.

Fox seems to have switched out their juiced guns with slightly underestimating guns. Reyes usually throws about 90-2, and Verlander is usually 94-8.

Filthy pitch by Verlander to K Rolen.

While not as overpowering as Prior, looks like he may be right.

Every big Cards fan loves...LOVES Reyes. The kid has guts' a plenty, and if he can develop a good breaking ball, he's going to be a very good ML starter.

Of course, you've got to figure that even a run of the mil long reliever is better than Mark Prior...at least his ass sees the field more than 5 x a year.

Preston Wilson keeps his strikeout streak alive....hopefully that keeps his ass glued to the bench.
