Carpenter missed the last Cardinals World Series in 2004 because of a nerve issue in his arm. He's the reinging CY Young Award winner.

The Stats: Carpenter was 8-4 at Busch Stadium this season, with a 1.81 ERA that was the lowest in the Major Leagues for a pitcher at his home ballpark. Carpenter is 2-1 with a 3.70 ERA in four postseason starts so far this year. Overall, he is 4-1 with a 2.98 ERA in the playoffs over the past two seasons, and the Cardinals are 6-1 in his seven starts. The Tigers will counter with Nate Robertson (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7014) (1-1, 5.91), who has not pitched in two weeks. His last start came in Game One of the American League Championship Series against Oakland, when the lefthander pitched five scoreless innings in a 5-1 triumph. His only other playoff start was in the opener of the ALDS, when the New York Yankees (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nyy) torched him for seven runs and 12 hits in 5 2/3 frames.Carpenter and the Cardinals GIT-R-DONE tonight and take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Today at the grocery store i was behind this girl in a red shirt. She turned around and glanced at me and i thought she was a dude with the goatee. She had the fake red goatee thing on and i seen her cardinals shirt. All in a couple second glance.

I said "ya know the cards are going to lose tonight don't you?"

She was taken back at my comment and said "so are you a detroits fan?"

"No, i just hate the cardinals."

She walked off.

While I don't disagree that timing wise it wouldn't have been an issue, it isn't SOP. Why not go the routine way with a guy who can't get around on heat on deck? High reward, low risk.

We could probably debate it all night, but it's not high risk making a throw 12 feet to the 3rd baseman (IMO). If Inge doesn't fall, it's two. And maybe 3.

OTOH, if he wheels and goes to 2b, and get the throw in the right place, (no sure thing there) it's a sure two with Pujols tweeked hammy.

Either way, it was huge blunder.

I'm wondering what Tony is going to do now. Given Carp's shoulder situation in the past, I'd rather have him go in 7 (if necessary) on full rest and pitch Reyes in 5 and Weaver in 6. I think Reyes has earned another start. You can always use Soup from the pen if need be.

I called this one. I can't believe that we have now have a real chance to get another World Series Championship. I thought our pitching would do us in. Edmonds and Rolen would tank....And look at this shit. Rolen and Edmonds mashing the ball. 2 stellar performances from our pitchers.

We need to win 2 out of 4 games and we have Suppan and Carpenter to start 2 of those games/

Detriot's bats are dead wood. Throw the choke label on them this year.

I'm calling it now....Detroit is going to choke this series away.

Cardinals are going to win another World Championship.
