Thanks for the sched, Ia. Hawks handled Purdue today. I didn't get the chance to watch but I think I'll see 'em Tuesday.

01-13-2001, 09:51 PM
Did anyone see the MU 4OT victory over ISU today. Man I wish I would have recorded that. Gilbert dropped 43 on the Cyclones. That's the first time a Mizzou player has scored that much since Peeler scored 43 in Lawrence in '92. It's about time we came out on top in OT.

01-14-2001, 06:39 AM
Yeah, I caught Mizzou finally beat ISU's C-squad in the 4th O.T.
Props.....I guess. ;)

What was truely impressive was Iowa thumping Purdue on the road.
Combine that with the whoopin they put on formerly #7 Illinois 2 days earlier, and you have the makings of sole possesion of first place in the Big 10,err,11.

Who'd a thunk, the state of Iowa, of all places, becoming a national power in college bb.

Iowa Hawks coach Steve Alford is on his way to taking the hawks to the next level. Upper division in BIG 10 with
a shot at the title. Alford is bring in better athletes
and he's getting into HOMES that Dr. TOM Davis was able to get in. Alford was a good hire by the University of Iowa.

01-14-2001, 10:10 AM

Too bad your cynicism gets in the way of enjoying a good game.

The Tigers beat ISU, a ranked team. The fact that 4 ISU players couldn't play the game under enough control to keep from fouling out shouldn't take away from the fact that Mizzou won. It's all part of the game.

IU is playing good ball, as is ISU, but it will be interesting to see if they can keep it going all year, or will flame out at the end of the season.

01-16-2001, 11:54 AM

bb #16 3-0 in thw BIG 10 Hawks at Wis tonight.

wrestling: Gables' record of 100 consecutive wins at ISU is going down to Sanderson-184lb 100-0 career record so far..the guy is a stud and class act from south dakota.

01-16-2001, 01:04 PM
Here's a stat that should give you a better feeling about Iowa's game tonight. Wisconsin has been favored in 9 games this season and they have not covered in any of them. Wisonsin is favored by 5 tonight.

Iowanian: How in the heck did Iowa lose to KSU?!?!

01-16-2001, 03:24 PM
Lose to KSU....hahahahahaha LOL

How could you lose to KSU ?

Big 10 team to a weak Big 12 team ,no way man, never happen !
I remember something about the Big 10 being tougher than the Bigf 12 ? Was that you ?

GO KU,the only real team in the Big 12!:):D

01-16-2001, 03:38 PM

easy...hawks played like crap in front of KSU's 75 rowdy fans and they scored less points than the purple weiners...minds on the trip to Hawaii they left for after the game I'm guessing...

I admit being baffled by the result of that game..My smack has been directly aimed at KU, not KSU.....and the Hawks still OWN KU. and have also beaten Missouri, ISU of the mighty BIG12... like this :spank:

I think this could go on and on until march.. :argue:

:D good luck to your weak arse teams.

01-16-2001, 03:43 PM
Yeah, MU seems to have a penchant 4 takin' IA teams to OT.
Good luck come tourney time! Oh yeah...Big X suks! Geez how many teams does it take to get to ten?!?!

01-16-2001, 04:02 PM

I guess at the end of the year we'll be able to see who finishes higher in the tourney, has more teams in the sweet16, and see what bigX vs XII record is...

I think you'll see XII get :spank: by X

good luck to your girlscout B teams :p

01-16-2001, 07:46 PM
Check this out. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/college/recruiting/news/2001/01/16/brick_0116/ Mizzou & KU have the #6 & #9 rated recruiting classes respectively for next year. It looks like both teams will be fighting for Big 12 dominance for some time, which is the way it should be. Only "real team" in the Big 12 my a$$. ;) BTW, I hate to say it, but the Big 10(or 11) is probably stronger than the Big 12 right now, but not by much.

01-16-2001, 07:50 PM
Mizzou, Why do you hate to say it... It is true, year after year after year after year....

01-16-2001, 07:58 PM
The conference was a heck of a lot stronger IMO before they added the 4 SWC rejects from Texas. Too bad they didn't just pick up Texas and dump Colorado and keep it the Big 8.

01-16-2001, 08:18 PM
Iowa came out strong agains Wisconsin but didn't have the cahonies to put them away.

They looked very tired the last 10 minutes of the game. They are a good team, just not to the point where they can dominate. Give Alford one more year and then look out.

01-16-2001, 09:26 PM
OMG....Iowa has lost again! :D

If you would back KU...you wouldn't feel so bad about now! hehehe...OMG...I'm, sett'n myself up for the BIG ONE! That's OK...I can handle it!

The Crimson and Blue is right for you! :D

01-17-2001, 06:35 AM
Losing to Wisconsin is nothing to be ashamed of. Heck, they took the MIGHTY SPARTANS to OT. :)

01-17-2001, 09:07 AM
I feel obligated to acknowledge the Defeat of the Hawks...I was hanging drywall and didn't watch any of the game...

was it at least close? They are still young and will only get better.

01-17-2001, 09:12 AM
How did Iowa lose to KSU? The same way Missouri did.

I'll take 3-1 in Big Ten play. Especially since 3 of those were on the road. 3 of their next 4 are at home.

01-17-2001, 09:43 AM
I dislike it very strongly when the ball won't go in the basket. MU got their azzes kicked! 2 days removed from 4OTs didn't help any; they looked beat in the first 10 min.
Completely clueless on O. No time to cry, gotta get up 4 UVA!! Sorry your team lost too, Iowa.

01-17-2001, 10:02 AM
Not to worry fella's. I'm confident that Iowa, Missou, and KU will all be in the tourney.

01-17-2001, 10:23 AM
I actually think they will all make it...

I'm looking forward to The Hawk Fresh/soph class getting more game time and experience...Don't know how far they'll go this year, i'm guessing second round, 16 if lucky...but the next couple of years should be really interesting...Those boys are going to be some players.

Chief Henry
01-17-2001, 12:47 PM
As long as BIG 10 and Big 12 teams kick the ACC, BIG East,
SEC and Pac 10 teams that alright with me. ;)

01-18-2001, 03:52 PM
to the top....just like the hawks in the BIG 10 ;)

01-21-2001, 04:03 PM
Will losing to the Wolverines bring the Hawkeyes back down to earth?

01-22-2001, 09:06 AM

what in the heck was that saturday? The young Ia team definitely has the capability to suck at times :)

I was more suprised to see both IA and IA State at 3rd and 4th in the Penn State team dual tourney...to Minn? I can see Ok State, but Minn??c'mon

Oh well, Bill gave me a pardon, so I don't feel the greif today.

01-22-2001, 02:31 PM
Consistency seems to be a problem. They beat Illinois & Mizzou, 2 teams far better than the Wolverines, and lose to the likes of K-state.

They also played pretty well vs. Wisconsin. Relax. They'll still make the tourney.

01-22-2001, 03:00 PM

with Minn. on the schedule for the 24th, i look for a strong comeback...and gopher thumping...which will be protested by PETA due to its severity :)

I think they are just young, and get un-focused...and Reuckers bad knee isn't helping anything.

I wonder if they'll choke this year...but think the next couple should be very bright.

01-22-2001, 03:52 PM
Gotta give Michigan credit. They came into a hostile environment and were ready to play. Blanchard was sick.
Someone (Alford) needs to tell Luke Recker that there are 2 halfs to a game.

01-22-2001, 03:57 PM
Talent wise, Michigan can compete very well in the big 10 (except with MSU ;) ). Ellerbe will be gone this year if they don't make a tournement.

01-24-2001, 03:43 PM
Hawks vs Gophers tonight 7pm

01-24-2001, 08:43 PM
Looks like we have it in the bag. 77-63 with 6:00 left.

01-24-2001, 10:19 PM
Mi CF: Don't worry about losing to KSU, My teams knows all about that too. Losing at NU hurts a bit also. Nice win tonight for Iowa. Maybe MU can get off the schnide against Tech. Gawd, I sure hope...

01-25-2001, 06:30 AM
Being the son of a die hard Mizzou fan, I also have a special place in my heart for the tigers. But i've followed MSU sports since going to a Spartan football game in the late 80's(losing 31-8 against Florida State), and have beccaome a Spartan fan. Before my dad passes, though, I would like to see Mizzou win a national title just to make him happy.

01-25-2001, 09:39 AM
Ahhhhh.......nothing quite as satisfying as kickin the crap out of Minnesoooota in their house.
Reggie Evans is looking like a 1st team All American.
As for Missou, I think they caught Neb. at the wrong time.
I'm sure they were a little bent at they way they lost to ISU on Sat.

01-25-2001, 11:00 AM
Did you see the quote from Reggie Evans? after shooting a 3 pointer at the end of the game...he took a jab at Reucker and Oliver...basically"i'm shooting 100% from the 3 and those guys are going to have to learn to deal with it"...pretty funny from a guy who makes shack look like a free throw artist...:)

about time they get another W

01-26-2001, 03:02 PM
vs Alford's alma mater tomorrow on CBS

01-27-2001, 02:03 PM
WHOOOHOO!!! Whata game!?!?! Complete tale of two halves. Iowa down by 19 in the first half comes back to dump the Hoosiers by 5 (71-66). Sorry Russ. Get on the Hawkeye wagon boys - there's plenty of room available.

Chief Henry
01-27-2001, 02:47 PM
I'm incredibly impressed with Steve Alford as a head coach.
The effort shown by the players must have deen outstanding.

I turned on the radio with 6 minutes to go in the game, after meeting with clients in my office. Being down by 19
to the HOOSIERS in IOWA CITY must have been embarising, not to mention it was on CBS National TV. Who were the game announcers on CBS. What were they saying????
The football recruits had to have been impressed too.

01-29-2001, 08:29 AM
The Hoosiers were putting it right to Iowa the first half..they looked like crap...I'm not sure what Alford said at halftime, but they came out with blood in their eyes and absolutely took it to em'....great comeback...

how 'bout them spartans.

01-29-2001, 08:40 AM

The real key is the complete inability of Mike Davis to make any adjustments. Every game this year IU has laid it on the opponent in the 1st half only to get completely outcoached in the 2nd half...IU had an 11 point lead, the ball and was in the double bonus with 2:30 to go in the game at Minnesota and lost...Without showing any leadership or game plan to settle his team down, Davis just stood there all dumbfounded. IU is one of the ten most talented teams in the country but probably have the most over-matched coach in the country to go along with the talent.

Chief Henry
01-30-2001, 10:46 AM
I had to bring this up. Iowa beat the TIGERS in double OT
earlier this year. In addition the IOWA HAWKS have spanked the KU hawks twice the previous two years.

I guess that makes Iowa tops in the BIG 12 over both

01-31-2001, 01:56 PM
da hawks ur playin' dem der goaphers tanight eh.

01-31-2001, 02:00 PM
Beware, Hawkeye faithful. The arse kicking of your team's life is coming up in 18 short days. See last nights results from Ann Arbor.

01-31-2001, 02:14 PM

state sure did put the wood to the wolverines....of course your boys don't look great Every game now do they?

01-31-2001, 03:15 PM
AHHH, Sunday Feb. 18th.
As if the Daytona 500 wasn't enough, Iowa vs MSU is on right after.
Both teams could be in the top 10 by that point.
MSU had better be ready,'cause the Hawkeyes will be.

01-31-2001, 06:19 PM
Sunday afternoon, Breslin center, top seed in the conference tourney up for grabs..........oh yeah, the Spartans will be ready. One question: who's gonna try to match up with Jason Richardson?

02-01-2001, 07:51 AM
Tied for 1st in the Big 10. Thank you Penn State!

Mi- I'm not worried about Richardson, Recker will match him point for point. What you gonna do about big Reggie?

02-01-2001, 08:21 AM
If Reucker gets his knee heeled up during this week off, he'll handle your boy..

Evans is the real deal..that man is horse...scott doesn't seem to be much of a dropoff...especially for a freshman..

Tied for 1st huh..

02-01-2001, 08:50 AM
Reucker? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Reggie? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys kill me! Richardson's THE BEST PLAYER IN THE BIG 10!!! Ruecker's an IU reject. Just another Southern(actually Eastern) Indiana, slow footed white boy. If he had a brand new knee, he'd still look up and see the bottom of Richardson's shoes.

As for 'Pig Reggie', have you seen Big Zach, Randolph that is? Then you still have to try and match up with Taylor, Charlie Bell & Mike Chappell, and try to outcoach Tom Izzo.

Now, Alford is good, but he's not yet in Coach Wizzo's league.

Get ready Hawkeyes. If Michigan BEATING YOU ON YOUR HOME COURT didn't bring you back down to earth, then prepare yourselves for a nice tall glass of humiliation. Wake up!

02-01-2001, 10:01 AM

those boys should make a nice pick-up game for Iowa's freshmen :p

Hasn't Michigan State been tripped up by a couple of real "powerhouses" this year?

Our slow-footed gimp legged white boys have nothing to lose. They may be slow, gimp footed, and crappy...but if WE WIN, your team got beat by a crappy team full of freshmen, gimps and slow footed honkeys;)

02-01-2001, 10:13 AM
Oh Yeah? Try to find a 'honkey' on this team! ;)

BTW, you left out that, in addition to being tripped up by those 2 teams, they have wins over Kentucky, Florida, Wisconsin, Seton and North Carolina. Has Iowa beaten A ranked team? I know they lost to Tennessee and Wisconsin. Oh yeah, Illinois. Almost forgot.

02-02-2001, 03:18 PM
Luke Recker will be out up to 6 weeks with a broken knee cap.
Looks like Ryan Hogan is going to have to sack up.

02-02-2001, 05:33 PM
Looks like a walk to the #1 seed for the mighty Spartans!

02-03-2001, 07:33 AM
It's just going to be all that much sweeter!

My guess is that MSU loses one of their next 2, or
maybe both.

02-04-2001, 08:29 AM
Care to wager, shakesthecat? Purdue today, Illinois Tuesday.

02-04-2001, 10:17 AM
Whatcha got in mind there Chief? I assume your taking Iowa-MSU.
Your boys SHOULD win today. And as long as either MSU
or the Illini lose Tuesday, I'm happy.

02-04-2001, 05:37 PM
The odds are pretty good that 1 will lose.

Yeah, i'm talking MSU-Iowa. The bet will be open to all of the hawkeye backers.

Taking suggestions.............

02-06-2001, 03:46 PM

Tomorrow VS Ohio State...time to find out how much the Reucker loss will hurt.

02-06-2001, 03:52 PM
Watch out for their center, Johnson. He's an animal.

02-06-2001, 04:29 PM
Not to worry Hawk fans. Kyle Galloway is coming out of retirement.

Iowanian- FYI, there's no "u" in Recker. At least u better not be in Recker, that would be sick ;)

02-07-2001, 08:56 AM
I remember Johnson from last year. I think he had 28 pts and 11 blocks against us. He'll have his hands full tonight with Evans.
No smack about last night. I've always thought Champaigne was one of the harder places to play.
MSU does have an incredible collection of athletes though.

02-07-2001, 09:03 AM
I don't know why I always add that U...It must be because 'round here people say "rUcker"..

You are right, State is unstoppable;)

02-07-2001, 01:05 PM
Damn, I hate eating crow! Heck of a game, looking forward to the payback. Illinois just looked a step quicker last night.

Note to coach Izzo: don't give Bradford open looks at 3-pointers.

02-08-2001, 06:53 AM
Mmmmm crooowww. Nothing like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Ken Johnson WAS the difference down the stretch.
Too bad Iowa wasted a great night by Oliver. Still no nead to push the panic button, that happens if we lose to(gulp)
The kharma that surrounds this board is brutal.
Fire away KU fans.

Chief Henry
02-08-2001, 07:24 AM
I did not watch the game vs Ohio State. I had church meetings and then my wife talked me into giving our dog a bath......Last i heard on the radio broadcast the hawks had a 9 point lead. GEESH, what is up with the IOWA defense
or should i say "sive defense"....

02-08-2001, 08:11 AM
That's what Alford said in the post game. He said they WILL learn quickly. Not very happy at all.

You guys getting ice up there today? Side streets and parking lots are skating rinks down here.

Mark M
02-08-2001, 08:52 AM
I STILL WANT MY DAMN BASKETBALL COACH BACK!! We will never see the Sweet 16 again.

I feel better now.

~~SMSU alumnus.

02-08-2001, 08:59 AM
the hawks don't deserve to win if they give up 3 9pt leads....

no need to panic...they'll still win 20 and make the tournament easily.

Chief Henry
02-08-2001, 12:30 PM
We don't have ice here in Centerville, not yet any way!!!

I'm woried bout my mom and another lady. They're driving
down here from LeMars and Remsen in NW Iowa. They're
going to drive right into it!!!!!

Whats this about the HAWKS giving up 3- 9 point leads.
I've yet to take the time to go into the web site yet to read about it.

02-08-2001, 03:02 PM
Looks like we're in the same boat now. OSU, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa ,MSU and Illinois all look like legitimate tournement teams.

Looks like the Big 10 Tournement will probably decide the conference this year, as there doesn't seem to be a clear #1 anymore, although I still believe when it's said & done MSU will somehow be the team to beat.

02-08-2001, 03:25 PM
I hate to say it, but, you're probably right. I also hate to say that, the two 1 point loses at home to Mich and OSU are going to come back to haunt us. When Iowa gets a 8 seed instead of a 4, those games will stick out.

02-08-2001, 03:31 PM
Boy, Ken Johnson has turned out to be a legit NBA prospect. Another Detroit boy who got away.

I left off a very underrated Penn State team as a possibility of making the tourney as well. Glad to see them work U-M over last night.Crispin's a legitimat scoring threat. Top to bottom, the Big 10 is such a tough league, it's hard to tell who'll come out of the pack.

02-09-2001, 01:20 PM

Northwestern tomorrow at 1:30

chance to rebound from this weeks disappointment

02-10-2001, 01:34 PM
Thought i'd bring it up for the Hawkeye fans.

02-10-2001, 06:40 PM

02-11-2001, 07:03 AM
Ya know, I really thought Iowa had the depth to overcome Reckers absence. Guess not. Alford promises changes for Michigan on Wed. I've got a suggestion. Find ways to get Glen Worley the ball.
The Mildcats, there is no freakin way we should have lost to those stiffs.
Uh wait, what does that make Iowa? (saving someone the trouble)

02-12-2001, 10:34 AM
I was off on a trophy woman safari in Omaha and hadn't heard....jeemany-christmas...I wasn't even slightly concerned with NW????!!!..

Beat Illinois and lose to NW...who'd a thunk it..

02-12-2001, 11:05 AM
That Iowa team resembles a "Roller Coaster", doesn't it ?
What gives with them...Are they a young team ?

02-12-2001, 11:23 AM

they are very young..I believe Oliver is the only SR and 4-5 Freshman see significant playing time...most of the rotation is fresh/soph, Evans is a Juco transfer, and I think Recker is a JR..

FYI, Recker's dad told me the other night that he was probably having surgery and out for the season.

02-13-2001, 09:01 PM
Halftime, Wisconsin 35 Illinois 22.

If the Badgers hang on, it makes it WIDE OPEN for the Spartans to cruise to a #1 seed , at least in the Big 10 tourney.

02-15-2001, 08:21 AM
How do you spell Nose-dive...

Its not time to eject yet, but I don't think all of the landing gear is down...

02-15-2001, 08:40 AM
Ya see....this 3 game skid is simply Alford's plan to trick MSU into thinking Iowa sucks. We've got MSU right where we want them.

02-16-2001, 12:28 PM
Not looking as forward to tomorrow as I was before....but its still here..

02-16-2001, 08:59 PM
Didn't the subject of a wager come up before?

I'll not mention the fact that U-M officialy owns the Hawkeyes this year(in every sport, ;) ).

02-18-2001, 07:03 AM
Hawkeye fans,
The day of judgement is upon us. Repent, and you shall be saved!

Hawkeyes will shock the world!

02-23-2001, 06:23 AM
Bug win for Ohio St. last night. Now the mighty Spartans are in a good position to claim the conference title, and the 1 seed in the conference tournament.

02-23-2001, 09:28 AM

We did discuss a wager...what was it? I'll glady pay up if reminded.

#1 seed...the higher they climb, the harder they fall...or sumtin like dat...

02-23-2001, 10:47 AM
I'm just pleased the Hawkeyes are well on their way to a reputable BB program once again. In the 80's & early 90's, we were considered a top 20 program and I'm dying for a consistent return to that prominence. Alford has righted the ship and I'm looking forward to the future.

02-23-2001, 02:02 PM
If memory serves, I believe you owe me a paycheck for every point the Hawkeyes lost by......

Just kidding. We didn't make a wager, we just discussed it.

02-24-2001, 07:36 PM

Russ Bliss-your Hoosiers clinched a spot today, I believe.

02-25-2001, 10:39 AM
My Hoosiers got Minn on Wen. and sorry old Purdue on the weekend...They should win both and be set up for a pretty nice seed considering they have wins against MSU, Wisc, ND, Penn St twice, Ohio St and NC Charllotte

03-06-2001, 08:16 PM
For old times sakes.........

03-07-2001, 07:48 AM
Hey, thanks for thinking of us Mi_.
I will add that Reggie Evans got jobbed in the All Big 10
media list. Shows how much the media knows.

03-13-2001, 07:45 AM
Oh sure, Hawks shock the world,(OK, maybe Iowa), and the Planet goes down all weekend.
Thank you Penn State, Indiana, for making it a lot easier.

For you Iowa fans--
I've typed it once and I'll type it again ...

I want my damn coach back!!!!!!!

Give him back ... please ... pretty please. If you don't I'll call a guy I know named Butch and he'll bring him back. Granted, it'll be bound and gagged and in the trunk of a car, but stil ...

I'm afraid Indiana will throw massive $$ Alfords way, and we'll being feeling the same as you.
Here's hoping Indiana goes the the Final 4. They'll HAVE to offer Davis a contract then.

Agreed. I'd like to see IU get there so Alford stays in Iowa (I hate Indiana). I think Alford went to Iowa for two reasons:

1. To prove he can coach a big-time team.
2. To play Indiana and show to them how good he is.

No way in hell he ever goes back to Springfield, MO. Of course, I don't blame him.

How 'bout them Hawkeyes....I'd all but assumed the season was tanked...and they come to the big10 tourney with fire in their arse.....and Recker possibly back for the NCAA...

My prediction...Lowly Iowa shocks Kentucky to earn Sweet 16 spot....

stranger things have happend

03-13-2001, 04:51 PM
Cingrats, Hawkeye fans! See, I told you guys to relax! However, beating Kentucky is a tall task, as they've been pretty impressive since losing to the SPARTANS!

Good luck to 'em, though!

03-13-2001, 06:00 PM
Kentucky? Hell, I just wanna get by the Catholic Cornhuskers first.

03-13-2001, 07:50 PM
Wasn't Recker supposed to get a check on his knee today to determine if was going to be able to play this week?

03-13-2001, 07:59 PM
Iowain - Congrats on the Championship. It was a close good battle. I have not enjoyed a college game that much in such a long time.

Now, does IU keep Davis, or do we coax Alford home where he belongs?

03-13-2001, 08:39 PM

A little late, but congrats to your Hawkeyes. This was a long time coming. Good luck in the tourney. Oh, one more thing: IOWA-In Omaha Without Asking

Just kidding!

03-13-2001, 09:08 PM
Iowa will have its hands more than full Thurs. Creighton is a pretty damn good 10 seed.

Last I heard on Recker, is that he is day to day. The Dr.'s haven't cleared him to play yet. IMO, he won't be worth much anyway. He's been out too long. Plus, they're playing fine without him. Finally!

Alford may return home someday. Just not yet.
Davis has earned a shot.

03-13-2001, 09:18 PM
The latest Las Vegas oddsmakers have Creighton a one point favorite. Also Dan Patrick picks them as an "upset special" involving #7seeds and #10 seeds.

03-13-2001, 09:24 PM
Gee, Patrick, a #7 over a #10, what a ballsy pick.
I guess that's why he's the best.

03-14-2001, 08:47 AM
the Iowa thing is kind of funny...funnier thing is the timing....I started dating a gal recently who lives in Omaha...about 3 blocks from Creighton...drove the 4 hours over last weekend to "scout"...

they have had Iowa's # the last two years though.

I realize my Kentucky prediction was bold, but the hawks have a way of losing to crappy teams, and beating the big boys unexpectedly....either way, They've exceeded expectations and give locals something to look forward to next year....many of these guys are freshmen!!!

good luck to your teams.

03-14-2001, 05:49 PM
According to ESPN, the most recent MRI done on Recker's knee has shown the fracture is almost, but not quite healed. His status for the first round and, should the Hawks escape Creighton, second round is "extremely doubtful". Which could be OK, since they finally have seemed to have found a good mix without him.

03-15-2001, 09:19 AM
I've noticed that the NCAA Wrestling Finals are this week, and haven't been as much as mentioned on ESPN etc....

but...I live about 30 miles away and can't get a ticket...even from scalpers so far.....Aparently the few wrestling fans that there are won't part with their tickets.....You can get a ticket outside for almost any Hawk BB game.

~just a useless observation while I pout about not getting to go...

03-17-2001, 04:09 PM

Bummer about losing to Minnesota. Oh well,, at least the right conference won.

03-19-2001, 10:06 AM

I shouldn't be disappointed about either Hawk team...I'm just spoiled with the wrestling...9 straight championships under Gable, 1 year at #2, 6 straight championships and a runner up this year....2 national champs, 2 runner up and 8 all americans....Isn't exactly a bad year I guess...Minnesota is going to be unstoppable next year...It was telling when their incoming Freshman Heavyweight won an Olympic medal before touching the mat in college..

The Hawk BB team bowed out, but far exceeded expectations...especially with Recker and Hogan out....they will be pretty decent for at least a couple of years...

03-19-2001, 10:14 AM
Look how the Big 10 dominated in wrestling, though:

Not bad. Hopoe is still alive for a Spartan-Illini finals matchup. Looks like alot easier road for the MIGHTY SPARTNANS!!

03-19-2001, 10:46 AM
I don't think Iowa had the gas remaining in the tank for Kentucky. With Recker healthy, I truly believe that would have been a different outcome. I'm still proud of the boys, though! If they can replace Oliver at the point, we'll be a Final Four contender, IMO. Worley, Henderson, Evans are all very tough. Sonderleiter off the bench has impressed me lately as well. Boyd is scrappy! I can't wait to see the additions from the new class next year. Should be a great recruiting class.
