Howdy

About 8 months ago I bought a 300 Gig Western Digital SATA HD from Best Buy for $100 bucks. Lately, the drive has been randomly 'failing', but will reinitiate once I reboot Windows. It runs Chk Dsk, and there are a few bad sectors on the disk, but I'm not sure how I can go about repairing them. Is there a utility that I can download to do a full diagnostic of the hard drive and fix or quarantine any bad sectors? (Note I boot from an 80 Gig IDE, and my XP files are on it).

I'm not sure how much better it will be thank chkdsk, but Western Digital has its own drive diagnostic utility on its web site. It will at least tell you if the drive is "bad," and if it is, you will be able to get it replaced under warranty.
