KU should play better this 2nd half.

Too many turnovers and terrible job of switching on defense doomed the first half. Hopefully, they'll get that worked out. I am impressed by ORU's man defense, though.

C'mon, man. Every team has a bad game once in awhile. KU may not be playing like the #3 team in the country. But with the talent they have, there is no way they should not be ranked in the top 25. That in itself was quite an accomplishment, I'll give you that. I'm not so certain that the league wasn't very good last year though. Nor am I certain that we could have won the league had we played the Big 12 South schedule vs. OSU twice, TU twice, OU twice etc.

Thats my point though, they're not playing like a top 25 team so drop them out. I'm not saying that it can't be a great team by the end of the season because they obviously have talent. I'd just rather they earn their ranking as opossed to getting it handed to them, which IMO they do every season.

That's just it. They have been playing like a top team.....until tonight. They've blown everybody out by around 40 points up until this game. The way it works is you lose some spots but you don't drop from #3 to out of the top 25 for one game.

BINGO ! Came out flat and didn't play good D at all. Our shots were forced, nothing smooth at all. As crappy as we perfomed, ya gotta hand it ORU, they came out hot and wasn't intimidated at all. I don't really know what happened, but when a guy McNamara's you in the first half what can you do. Is that really for real though? He hasn't made more than one three pointer in a game before and then he hit 7 of 7 in the first half? That is regoddamndiculous. All truth aside, this team needs time to jell. They played like shit, but they'll turn out alright. When you take your only two centers away, and then introduce three new faces, it's going to be hard to jell at first.

Still, there should be no excuses for losing at home to Oral Roberts.

Brings to mind an old story,

Ma and Pa were listening to Oral Roberts on the radio.

Oral told the listeners to place one hand on the radio and
the other hand on any body part which had an affliction.

Pa placed his hand on the radio and his other on his crotch.

Ma looked and him with disgust and said, Pa he said he was
going to heal the sick not raise the dead.

And now, open your eyes and see, what we have made is real
We are in Xanadu

An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally

Unless of course they play a team that begins with a "B" in the first round of the tourney.... :cuss:

I thought of the Memphis game a lot too.

KU did not have the big bodies like Dorsey and Cooper to throw at Green.

Self got outcoached because Sutton owned the Hi-Low tonight.

Calipari wouldn't have lost to these guys if he had KU's players, IMO.

But that Memphis team at the end of last year was considerably better than this KU team right now. KU has a lot of room to grow though.

That's funny....last year every KU fan with an opinion said KU had an easy run through their bracket, bad #1 seed (Memphis), and easily the most talent. Memphis had more talent, and arguably still does.

KevB
11-16-2006, 12:05 AM
This year, it will probably be "big bodies like Dorsey, and Niles, and Bailey, and Cooper."

Hope Dorsey's toe, Niles knee and Bailey & Cooper's heads all get healed up as we move into the regular season.

Seriously, how worthless do you have to feel if you work at Sports Illustrated? You never get anything right. You put down thoughts, predictions, and they always go up in a ball of flames. Does this ability carry over into other aspects of their lives? Does their gas tank catch on fire every time they fill it up? When they get married, does the church ceiling cave in? Do they somehow get eggs to stick to non-stick pans? Somebody needs to find this stuff out.

Optimistic view: Kansas can use this game as an example when they reach the first round of the NCAA's or when they play the lesser Big XII teams. Apparently they have no problem getting up for the big names.

Pessimistic view: This team lost to a midmajor in Allen. We have no real leader on this team, if we did this wouldn't have happened.

My View: This is still a young team that believes in it's own hype way too much. Baffling losses like this happen when you don't have a fiery leader out there, especially a vet. Self just hasn't been able to light a fire under this team's ass. Brandon rush will never be a superstar because he is just way too passive, he is not assertive enough. These are games he needs to take over. NBA? Good luck. But this team has too much talent to waste it away, they'll bounce back...

KU players and coaches should be ashamed of this loss simply because they played like crap. In order to be the best, you gotta play like the best. Hopefully, this will be a wakeup call.

I do realize that early season losses like this are meaningless. Didn't Carolina lose to Davidson in their first or second game of the season a couple years ago? Then they went on to win the title?

I lived in Lawrence for 6 years. Theres only a handful of things that are good about Lawrence:

1) The weekend garage sales
2) The variety of food
3) Juice Stop
4) The new influx every fall of co-eds at The Outhouse. I still have not seen anything like the crop from Fall 2001. Nova, April, Constance, and Pandora. Course I havent seen this years yet, but seriously, those four and a sacrifice....

What was bad was the Jayhawks "better than thou" attitude and the over-aggressive panhandling on Mass. The traffic was horrible, except during the summer...not to mention ALL THE ^@&*$%@& ROUNDABOUTS!!

I didnt get to see the game (except for the final 3 minutes when ESPN news switched to it...great..thanks for that)....but from what I've read, it sounds like there was quite a bit of hot dogging going on and it sounds like this might have been just what the doctored ordered to put a kabosh to the hype and attitude that was following the team around. Time to get back to basics...this team last year led the nation in FG% defense...didnt look anything like that last night in the highlights I saw.....and they HAVE to figure out how to handle being down late in a game...I saw three straight possessions down the stretch where either Robinson or Chalmers went crazy-like towards the bucket and threw up prayers.....they need to be prepared with plays to run, etc. and not panic.

Lastly, someone earlier mentioned Rush wasnt a leader, and was too passive, etc.....but I seem to remember Paul Pierce being similar to that....every once and a while, Pierce would get pretty fired up...but if you look back and look at him now...he gets way more fired up/vocal in the NBA than he ever was at Kansas.

I'm a huge KU fan, but I'll admit, I havent seen enough from Rush to think he deserves the hype he gets....he can create his own shots (which is most important in the NBA), but his dribbling still is a bit suspect, and I dont see him drive to the hole enough and get to the line.

OR was better than people figured, but in the end, we'll be a very good basketball team - especially considering being a freshman hasnt seemed to rattle Arthur any.....but we need someone who can hit 3's consistently (Collins?).

11-16-2006, 09:52 AM

IMO, it was his worst coached game since he's been here. Failed to recognize that the doubleteam wasn't working until it was too late. You can't let them burn you with 3's until it's 30 minutes into the game.

Nothing to get worried about here though. This team believed in the hype, which is what happens when you have a team based mostly off of freshmen and sophomores. Young, cocky, and arrogant. Hopefully this was a slap in the face.

I agree Laz with the ranking, but I'd imagine we'll be top 15 still. I just hope these players realize they can't win just by showing up.

C'mon, man. Every team has a bad game once in awhile. KU may not be playing like the #3 team in the country. But with the talent they have, there is no way they should not be ranked in the top 25. And ORU is not a bad team. They may very well be in the NCAA tourney come March. So, let's not fly off the handle just yet.
