It was that way when I woke up this morning. I have feeling in my hand and can move my fingers. I must have had a mild stroke during the night. i can feel my arm but it is like it belongs to someone else. It won't do what I tell it. I am typing this one fingered. This is shitty.

A) Your arm isnt working.

B) Think you might have had a stroke.

C) Why are you not at the nearest hospital???

If you are serious, Skip, you better get to a DR. asap. Quick medical attention can minimize harm if there is a problem...and if not, you will sleep a lot better. Sounds like a classic symptom of a problem though...

You need to go to the Emergency Room now!

Dude, you gotta go check it out. I know a guy who had a "mild" heart attack. He waited a couple of days before going to the doctor. Doctor told him if he would have come in right when he felt it they could have greatly reduced the long term damage to his heart. He screwed up and knows it now.

You need to get it checked out now!

Well, it's up to you, Mr. Skip Towne. But, Mr. chief52 is right. If it is something, the longer you wait, the more damage that can occur. Permanent damage. And, if it isn't anything, it won't cost you 14k or anywhere close to that amount.

Besides, they probably have cute nurses and they might give you some good drugs.

One day at school his arm and neck became sore, then he complained his chest was heavy... He didn't say anything to anyone for 2 days...

BTW, Skip. Get your ass to a doctor. You're right that your stroke (if that's what it was) will heal or not. That being said, you could be in for worse ones (or complications) in the future that might be preventable if you get some medical assistance. I'm not saying hit the ER, but I'd definitely recommend a visit to the doctor in the near future (like soon). Best of luck to you!

Skip, the symptoms you are describing could be a couple of things. Several of such things will go away if you tough it out. However, if you think you have had a mild stroke, without medical attention - and medical attention rather soon, you WILL have more. Not a maybe, WILL. And WHEN it happens again (again not if WHEN) it will be more severe. Ignore it, and you could end up dead or worse - laying in a nursing home unable to walk, eat, drink, speak, etc.

You do what you want. If it were me, I'd have been calling doctors trying to get in this morning if not, I'd have went to ER. Yeah, it'd be a bill I have to pay, but I'd be around to pay it.

Mr. Skip Towne may be many things, but stupid is not one of them. There has to be a reason why he is electing not to have this checked out.

1. He has an overwhelming fear of doctors.
2. He believes that this thread will go to 100 posts as long as he refuses treatment.
3. The stroke has already affected his judgement.

lately I've had a bit of a 'heavy' chest as well, and a bit of neck pain that flashes in and out, as well as some shortness of breath...but it only is like that if I think about it...if my mind is off of it then I don't feel anything.

I think it has something to do with anxiety, but I am going to get it checked out sometime within the next few days.

Do you guys think I'm just worrying about it so it's affecting my mind set or do you think there is something seriously wrong? My family has absolutely no history of heart disease or cancer, etc...

Prompt medical attention is key with stroke. I had an uncle who said similar to what you just did, "I felt like someone else's arm was in bed with me", and he'd had a stroke. There is a fairly substantial risk of death in the first few days afterwards without proper treatment--get to a Dr, Don't wait for the socialization of medicine!

KC Jones
11-17-2006, 10:48 PM
If you can get care within the first 3 hours, they can give you an anticoagulant that will break down the clot and prevent a lot of damage. It's also important to make sure the stroke wasn't caused by part of a larger clot that broke off ... because it could be that the rest of that big clot is about to move up to the brain and kill you. Another important reason to get medical care immediately is they can test the severity of the stroke and based on how well you recover in 24 hours guesstimate a lot about how much damage there was, your prognosis, and how aggressive they need to be in therapy.

but go ahead and stay home Skip, 'cause them gosh danged doctorin fools is just out ta get ya monay'.

Okay... here's the real reason skip doesn't want to go in:

http://www.dengel.ch/witziges/pics/g/Emergency%20Room.jpg

I x-rayed a guy last month that put a vase up his butt. Like the kind that you put flowers in. Stuck it in there & couldn't get it back out. Guy was kind of embarrassed....

Meanwhile.... docs can do great stuff for strokes & pinched nerves. Its doctor time for Skip...

Dude you suffered a TIA, which is a major precursor to having a major stroke. If you do not go to the doctor you will have another but more than likely it will end up leaving you bed ridden or dead.

Get you ass to the Dr, get some Heprin, and coumidin

It was that way when I woke up this morning. I have feeling in my hand and can move my fingers. I must have had a mild stroke during the night. i can feel my arm but it is like it belongs to someone else. It won't do what I tell it. I am typing this one fingered. This is shitty. This happened to my wife a couple months ago. She passed out in our car, over the emergency brake lever, after a party. She went to the Dr. who was confused and had to call a neurologist. Turns out it was a text book case of "Saturday Night Paulsey"--seriously, search it.
Did you pass out on something?

I doubt this even happened. I bet skip woke up and couldn't feel his arm for a second...only to have all feeling return within a few seconds...it's happened to all of us before.

Then he decided he wanted attention and made a thread about it.

I'd think the cost of a couple of tests and medicine will be pretty cheap compared to the years of paying a nurse to flip you, feed you through a tube and wiping your ass.

Get your ass to an effing doctor.

Stroke symptoms aren't the same line of thing as blowing off the gout....or urinating slowly at your age.

Blow this stuff off and you may indeed be a dumb futhermucker.

I hope someone is checking on you before the neighbors smell your bloated corpse skip.

Hope you're feeling better. The guys on the board wouldn't be telling you to get saggy ass to a hospital if they didn't give a rat's ass.

Yeah, medical expenses suck. I blame the lawyers and the insurance companies and the rat bastards that'll sue for every little thing, right down to a hangnail that won't quit hangin'.

One thing I would say - If you've had a stroke, it's increased your capacity of the grumpy part of your brain.

I know why your pissed off in this thread - you're scared. I would be too. Reminds me of when I was 27 and I had to get help getting off a basketball court because my heart was in atrial flutter/fibrillation and I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

We're ragging on your ass because we care.

Go get the help you need. We need your attitude today, Thursday and next Saturday.

At least know that she is still banging younger guys while you are laying in bed lookin at the ceiling wondering why you cant move your arms.

Normal people have problems they see a doctor...even those with no insurance.

Having no insurance is not that big of a deal. I went without it as a contractor for two years. Everytime I got a cough I would freak out.
