When does it start?

Bearcat
11-18-2006, 11:44 AM
It can't live up to the hype unless it's decided in 10 OTs. With Schembechler's death, ESPN has been covering that issue or the game for the last 30 hours straight. They've been doing it for a few years though, so I've gotten used to the fact that it's rarely the game everyone thinks it will be.... and then when there's a game like USC/Texas where all ESPN talks about is how good USC is, it ends up being a classic.

I think the NFL has this rule too......he didn't let the guy get his head up, which could lead to injury, just a safety thing.

They call it more in high school football. You have to wait for the snapper to lift his head up before you hit him. It's a stupid penalty but a penalty none-the-less. Basically it's to protect the snapper from having a neck injury with his head down. It makes sense, but I'm not sure it should be an automatic first down.

We'll have to see what USC does. BCS likes Michigan.

Florida didn't do anything by facing a horseshit program and the Domers yet again faced a mediocre team. 3-point loss on the road to the #1 team in college football is 10 times as impressive as what a lot of the other teams have done so far.

This whole debate is why college football sucks so much ass compared to the NFL. In the NFL, it's decided on the field the way it should be. In college, it's decided by computers and the media. Without a playoff, there really is no true champion in college football.

Pretty much worth the hype. Great game.

Don't know if this point has already been made, but here's how I see it: I think Michigan is one of the top 2 teams in the country, but they shouldn't get a rematch -- because this was like a playoff game. Loser goes home, winner advances to face a "lesser" team in the other bracket.

CupidStunt

Didn't think it was worth the hype myself. Bullshit calls, horrible mistakes, little controversy, no real competition (Michigan was far inferior for 55 minutes).

Pretty good college football game, I thought. Problem is twofold: (1) there's three or four of them every week, and (2) the hype would require it to be an all-time game, ala USC-Texas (which did justify its hype). Not even close in this instance IMO.

Well, considering this thing was hyped beyond the ionosphere, you're right, it didn't match that. Nothing could.

It wasn't as classic as USC-Texas. But I thought it was very entertaining, never a blowout. Michigan just kept getting gouged by the big play. But that made it entertaining to me.

Thats the problem though, its all about computers and this is not the post season no matter how much people want it to be. Michigan is clearly the deserving #2 team in the country, but because of the stupid computer system they probably won't be playing in the national title like the should be.

I'm all for a I-A playoff. Have been forever. I'm just opining within the current setup. This was Michigan's playoff game. They lost. They shouldn't expect a rematch. But it would be great to see them seeded in the bracket opposite OSU and see if they could earn that rematch.
