View Full Version : I'm starting to wonder if McCain could win even a General Election in 2008...
Talk about flip-flop...
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/11/19/mccain-abortion/
McCain 1999 (running for the 2000 nomination):
I’d love to see a point where it is irrelevant, and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary. But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to illegal and dangerous operations.
McCain 2006 (running for the 2008 nomination):
MCCAIN: I do believe that it’s very likely or possible that the Supreme Court should — could overturn Roe v. Wade, which would then return these decisions to the states, which I support.
STEPHANOPOULOS: And you’d be for that?
MCCAIN: [U]Yes, because I’m a federalist.
McCain would have to win as an independent, which would be tough as heck from a financial standpoint.

He's already lost my vote. I used to respect him but he's squandered his "independent maverick" status by all the sucking up he's done to the neocon power base. He's done more than flip-flop on this issue. He's been singing a contradictary tune for some time now. I just don't trust him anymore. It appears that he'll say anything to get elected.
If he wins it doesn't seem like he'll have the conviction of his beliefs to buffer him from undue influence any better than the current bunch. It appears that he'll just tailor his beliefs to conform to their policy demands. I don't want that kind of leadership anymore.

Your 100% right on when you mention that he will say anything to get elected. That's why I always considered him a fraud, even when it was not popular to say that due to his war record.

I for one refuse to stand and vote for anyone who is pro-abortion. The refusal to stand up for the most innocent of life cannot be trusted.

So murder is your choice. OK

Do you expect politicians to change abortion law any time soon? IMO, any changes in policy will come on the state level or from the judiciary branch. If Republicans were to pass a national abortion ban they would lose one of their biggest rallying cries. With people like you who vote for national office based solely on one issue like abortion (not to belittle it because its clear that this is a very important issue to you), the Republicans can rely on anti-abortion votes for years to come.

Noa69 I strongly agree with you conerning Rep using the anti-abortion vote. Bush is the first guy in office to put guys on the Supreme Court who seem to agree that abortion is murder. No I don't think abortion will ever be made illegal. To many men use it to free themselves of their mistakes.

OMG!
A politician equivocating! A politician speaking to different audiences with a different emphasis, and "message?" A politician "flip-flopping" because of poll numbers.....
Simply, amazing.
I'll bet you can't find similar examples of Hillary, Joe Biden, or Jon Edwards parsing comparable issues.....cause they "is principled" peoples. Yes, sirreee....Bob.

I agree! Here's my real concern with him in the WH: He supported the Kosovo intervention and was a total hawk on bombing, even women and children. I think he is very likely to get us into a war with Iran or continue the NeoCon adventure. I almost could care less about his other issues because of this.

On the level of Roe? I don't think so.

McCain is ruining any chance he had by coming out in favor of MORE troops in Iraq. The country is against it now, can you imagine how much the country will be against it by 2008?

McCain lost my respect when he started sucking up to Christian Right and appeared at Liberty University.
