I am in need of advise. I recently purchased a new digital video camera because I am a new Grandpa. I downloaded the pictures onto the 'puter and tried to edit them so I could burn them onto dvd's for the family...
I am using Pinnacle Studio 8 Quickstart and it was fairly easy to edit the video part and covert to an AVI...I also had the choice to convert to mpg or mpeg...don't know why I chose AVI...anyway now there is no sound (you know the isnt she cute talk that is on the original)...there is sound I added for the title and all. Whats up? Did I screw up or will the sound be there when I burn to DVD?

The sound will not be there if you burn the file to DVD.

You need to find the audio track on the original and make sure it is included before converting to .avi or whatever format you choose.

I don't use Pinnacle Studio at all so I really can't help you on how to do that though.

I did though find this link

Your soundtrack problem is due to it being in Dolby Digital (.ac3) format.

Your camera stores its video in DV format; this is a lossy codec stored in AVI containers on PC. The "capture" you do over IEE-1394 (FireWire) is actually just a bit-for-bit copy from the camera. Sound on DV is usually in Linear PCM (.wav) format. For more on DV, see our DV Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=59).

Since your question is really about using Pinnacle with DVD sources, I'm moving your thread to the Non Linear Editing forum.
