View Full Version : But weren't we close?

Weren't we?

Blocked punt disaster. Bell slipping on Tomlinson's big run that wouldn't happen if the blocked punt hadn't turned into a disaster. Tony G's got the ball on his fingertips in the endzone. That drop by LJ while he was in full stride down the middle. Kennison's drop on 4th down.
I'm sorry, but if we make these plays... we come extremely close to winning this game, right?

It was a decently played game with a handful of terrible missed opportunities that all went in the Chargers' favor.

Doesn't matter, we did what we normally do, blow it! We wouldn't have done jack shit in the playoffs anyway.

That's par for the course with us though. I mean you can always look at more than one play, but for instance, if Surtain didn't let an easy INT slip through his hands late against Dallas last year... he picks it off, we win, finish 11-5, go to the playoffs... Pittsburgh doesn't make it, we have a different Super Bowl winner. The whole course of history is changed.

Maybe tonight, if Ross is just able to pick up that ball, he walks in, we take the lead... Rivers is forced to pass it more to catch up, we continue to shut their passing game down, go on to win. The only big pass play he had all night was late when we put everybody in the box to stop the run. Who knows what our D could've done if we'd actually got a lead. We might literally be a dropped INT and a dropped blocked punt away from two straight playoffs births.
