Comes out on Friday. I haven't looked this forward to a movie since Scorsese's "The Departed" this summer.

"The tumultuous early history of the CIA viewed through the prism of one man's life in The Good Shepherd, an espionage drama starring Academy Award winners Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie and Robert De Niro and directed by Robert De Niro."

Also Joe Pesci has a scene in the movie "to help out his old buddy (De Niro)".

I wish directors would stop jam-packing their movies with so many well-known actors. It's become annoying.

But it does look good, Jenson.

I know there are some violent interrogation scenes, but I haven't heard if they involve Jesus

"ARE YOU THE KING OF THE JEWS!?! YES OR NO!"

In the middle, there is an anime scene about Matt Damon's childhood.

I was just kidding, btw. No anime/PIXAR/claymation.

Well, gentlemen, today is the day. Reviews of the film are split - Rottentomatoe rating currently sits at 52%. The bad reviewers all seem to say the same thing - too long, not enough action.

That's just silly. It's about the CIA for God's sake.

tvguide.com:

Damon's subtle, painfully introverted performance is the film's linchpin, but the supporting cast notably Gambon, Crudup, William Hurt, Alec Baldwin, Joe Pesci, John Turturro, Keir Dullea, Timothy Hutton and Gabriel Macht is top notch. Roth's screenplay, steeped in the peculiar rituals, lock-jawed repression and smug sense of superiority of the WASP ruling class that both shaped America's intelligence community and made it vulnerable, is less interested in derring-do than back-room deals and the day-to-day drudgery of spying, driven by the notion that espionage is a cynical high-stakes game played with people's lives and the ante is human decency and connectedness.

As I read the above, I could clearly hear the voice of Wayne Campbell.

The trailers look interesting, but virtually ever review from someone I recpect or generally agree with talks about it being too long and just not all that entertaining.

Ditto. I hate to let reviewers ruin my anticipation of a movie, but they've done it to me on this one. Every review seems to say basically the same thing. Lifeless, dull, tedious, long, boring.

Well, I would suggest that you have to be patient in order to watch this movie. It's long but not overlong, it was very complex, imo. There are a lot of subplots and it can be hard to follow every character and know exactly what's going on. Also, if you have no interest in history, you're probably going to find the movie boring. There's a lot there. And a lot of small details about big events. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about historical events in America, but even I was like "what's going on here?" sometimes.

So, at least for me, I'm going to need another viewing to fully understand the plot. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who will think that.

So, as far as that goes, the acting is great, Matt Damon, William Hurt, I like these guys. De Niro, small as his part is, and Pesci (even smaller) are good to see. Jolie, is fine, nothing special.

Cinematography - my favorite part of film. It's very stylish and perfect. So is the music.

I'm debating whether to see it on big screen again. But I'll probably just buy it the first day it's on DVD. Can't wait for that.

My recommendation: go, if you want a smart movie to watch, and have the patience for a near 3 hour film. It was never boring or slow.

Isn't that pretty much the Film Actors Guild cast from Team America?

This sounds up my ally, but I'll probably wait for the DVD so I can watch it a couple times close together and back up over the parts I miss.

With the caliber of talent it has & a smart sounding script to go with it, i think this is a 3 hour movie that will be worth it.

In a general sense it sounds a bit like "Syriana".

Cons: 3 hours long...feels like 6

It's not that long. It's shorter than The Godfather. If you like the pacing of The Godfather, then there you go, you can get through this without thinking twice about it.

Good movie...However, you wait 2 hours and 45 minutes for the payoff, and there is no payoff.

There was a trailer before Rocky Balboa for a comedy called "Wild Hogs" coming out in March... had John Travolta, Tim Allen, William H. Macy, and Martin Lawrence as four guys who want to live a little and hit the road with their motorcycles. Also saw Ray Liotta in there. And actually the trailer wasn't too bad, but another ensemble type cast.

Just finished watching this movie.

I was not really impressed. You really really have to pay attention when you watch this movie. I dont like it, because it is long, and its kinda like pulp-fiction in a sense where it gets your mind flipping back and forth. My mind was in shambles, and i couldn't understand the storyline of the movie.

*This is the kinda movie you have to watch 4 times to really understand it. Not the greatest set of acting. Imo, the directing and producing of this film was not good.

Yeah, it sucks to see good actors under the direction of someone like Martin Scorsese. What a drag.:shake:

I guess you'd prefer a movie with Steve Guttenberg and Dana Carvey. That would probably be like porn for you! :p
