Here's how the Chies will really make the playoffs...

We'll go the Charger route.

We'll end up drafting 12-18 this year. Herm is a good recruiter so we will get some decent talent.

Next year, due to all the holes left by old vets leaving for more $ elsewhere/retirement and Herm's game management/trading FGs for TDs we'll end up below .500 next year and have another decent draft.

In '08 Trent will be gone and we'll have a new QB playing. A new QB and Herm's trading FGs for TDs will put us at 4-12 to 6-10. We'll be drafting in the top 10 in '09.

In '09, Carl's last year, since everyone's contracts are up and a new GM is evident, they have no drive producing another year like '08 with comparable draft placement in '10

In '10, the new GM hires a new HC. The new HC hires competent coordinators. They take the Talent that Herm provided, and take us to playoffs for the first time in almost a decade, we not only get our first playoff W in almost 2 decades, but they take us all the way to SB Glory.

Count on it!

I like your plan.
We should immediately trade GREEN, LJ, Jared Allen and Tony G for 2008-2009 Draft picks. That will give the youmg blood them 2 yrs of playing time before we make our push.

We could also institute the "Merriman program" All rookies enter a mandatory steriod program to bulk up - sit out the first 4 games of 2009, and make a run in the second half of 2009-20010

We should trade all of this years picks for picks in 2008 -2009,
