As crappy as our D line is, I'm surprised that other teams pick up our castoffs. Miami has two former Chiefs on their D line, Vonnie Holliday and Keith Traylor. Yes, I know Traylor wasn't a castoff but he must be 65 years old.

Some thoughts:

TJ, this guy was a professional football player that I assume you are neither related to nor personally acquainted with. While his death was tragic, you are taking this way too personally. I'm also fairly sure that you're not on the team's payroll as internet defender. A bit of gallows humor, while in questionable/bad taste, does not equate to pissing on one's grave. I've also interracted with you long enough to know that you're one of the "professionally aggrieved." You've always really seemed to relish playing the wounded victim. I also strongly suspect that you were lurking here looking for exactly these types of comments to scream bloody murder over. I guess these guys made your day.

It's tragic that Darrent Williams was shot and killed. I just saw a story on the news about a local kid who got blown up in Iraq. His death was tragic, too. But much like Williams's untimely demise, it does not affect me personally, so I'll think "gee, that sucks" and move on with my life. If you really think we're supposed to get and stay weepy over this, you're crazy.

And finally, I think that if you were truly looking for comfort instead of trouble, you'd have stuck with your own tonight.

Yeah, Fraz... I was just hoping that folks around here were making jokes about a kid who got shot in the neck yesterday. That's the kind of trouble that I literally planned to find over here. Looks like my dastardly plan worked, huh?

I'm not sure who you are to tell me how personal I should take a death. You're right that I didn't personally know the kid. But I know my kid. And I know he's got folks. And I know he's got kids of his own. And I know that he had hopes and dreams. And I know that every week for the last two years his name has been brought up in conversations that I've been involved in.

I sure couldn't have predicted how much his loss would impact me personally. I saw the same reaction over here when Lamar died. Which is why I'm so suprised that folks over here are being so callow.

I guess I have as much right to tell you how to deal with the death of a stranger as you do to tell others on this thread how to deal with it. Christ, I hope you don't read the obituaries - everybody listed was once somebody's child. Some of them didn't get to live their dreams and play professional football, either.

Derrick Thomas's death affected us because he was the heart and soul of our franchise for a decade. Lamar Hunt's death affected us because he was the team owner. But I didn't build a candle-lit shrine in my closet over either of them, nor shed a tear. Does that make me an asshole? No, it makes me a stranger. And while I will offer and have offered condolances over Williams, the simple fact is he was a second year player on another team. I didn't know him or the people on TV who are talking about how great he was. His death doesn't mean anything to me on a personal level, and I'm not going to lie and say it does to satisfy the requirements of your PC litmus test.

He's gone. Let it go. :shake:

I know, but F#CK it still pisses me off we lost DT. I know everybody that met the guy would call him a friend-but I did know him through friends and also dealing blackjack to him, Neil, Salamua and other Chiefs. He was a class guy and I freakin can't stand it when scumbags slam his image, like he was a thug or gangbanger.

I got my tix the year we drafted him and have yet to see a better player in red. RIP DT you are still missed.

Cool DT story- He was signing out at the Independence Center, but I got off work late and the line was huge. There was no way I was getting my jersey signed. So I kind of hung out at the front of the line trying to get a pic with him in the background. I started to walk away and he said "Jeff, what up bud, you need a pic." I was like hell yeah. So he stopped signing and stood up and took a pic with me. I had delt cards to him and met him a few times but was shocked he even remembered me let alone my name. That meant more than any signed jersey.

Wow I just got choked up thinking about that-still hurts like I lost a close friend.

Theories on killing abound

Police, mum on a motive, follow leads. Witnesses and others say trash talking or an attempt to steal from Williams may have started an altercation.

Article Last Updated:01/02/2007 11:45:26 PM MST

An argument before the killing of Denver Broncos player Darrent Williams could have been sparked by trash talking over the team's New Year's Eve defeat, an attempt to steal the young athlete's jewelry or the flashing of gang signs, according to witnesses, family members and sources close to the team.

A team of Denver police detectives is tracking down dozens of leads, said police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance tapes from the New Year's Eve party that Williams attended at the Shelter nightclub at 1037 Broadway shortly before he was shot to death.

The party was in part a birthday celebration for Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. Several Broncos players attended, including Javon Walker, D.J. Williams and Brandon Marshall, according to witnesses.

Police are also looking at tapes from any traffic cameras that may have filmed events as the limo carrying Darrent Williams and others traveled from the club to the shooting location near Speer Boulevard and West 11th Avenue, Jackson said.

Denver police wouldn't say Tuesday whether they know the motive for the shooting. Jackson would say only that the argument at the Shelter may or may not be a factor.

Police continued searching for the killer who fired at least 14 bullets into the side of the stretch Hummer carrying Williams. The shooter may have been inside a white SUV Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban, police said.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan choked back emotion when talking about Williams at a news conference Tuesday. "You never know why God takes somebody, but I know one thing: He got somebody very special in Darrent," Shanahan said.

Outside Williams' townhome in Parker, family members shielded his mother, Rosalinda Williams, with a blanket to give her privacy.

Demond Williams emerged from the home with a photograph of his nephew. It showed him smiling and posing with teammates.

"Just pray for us," Demond Williams said. "This is very difficult."

The 24-year-old player who had been a high school standout and a star at Oklahoma State University "meant so much to us," Demond Williams said.

An argument at the club involved Williams' friends, who were members of a rap group the Broncos cornerback was promoting on his record label, Ryno Entertainment, his uncle said.

"The guys got into it with some people," Demond Williams said. "The altercation was more an argument. No one put hands on each other.

"Guys were jealous about the way they were carrying themselves," he said.

Williams wouldn't have been involved in any fighting, his uncle said. "Darrent was always the one trying to squash it," he said.

A witness who asked not to be identified because he fears for his safety said he saw several men, including Marshall and Williams, get out of the stretch limo in front of the club about 1:30 a.m. and start chasing someone.

People were leaving both the Shelter and Vinyl, a nightclub across the street, at the same time. The witness said about 700 people were spilling out the front door to leave when the altercation began.

"One thing I heard was someone tried to snatch Darrent Williams' chain and necklace," the witness said.

Shea Hasan, 22, who was at the Shelter that night, said she saw an altercation as she walked out of the club but didn't hear what the arguing was about.

She said she saw Williams standing next to a group of people who were arguing with another group of people on the sidewalk outside the club, but Williams wasn't involved in the fight and did not appear to say anything.

Dave Maddux, bar manager at Broadways down the street from the Shelter, said he saw the club emptying out.

"The Hummer was right in front. Some people told me that on their way in, there was trouble with a big group - probably someone special going to the club," Maddux said. "There was a yelling match because people got out of a big vehicle and basically cut in front of a lot of other people in line.

Sources close to the Broncos, who were not at the party, said they heard that the argument stemmed from trash talking over the team's loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Williams' family is preparing to have his body returned to Texas for his funeral Saturday at Great Commission Baptist Church. The entire Broncos team will fly to Texas for the funeral.

"He's in a better place now," Shana han said.

Also Tuesday, Nicole Reindl, a 21-year-old woman who was in the limousine and was shot in the head, was sent home from the hospital to recover.

Another shooting victim, Brandon Flowers, was released Monday.

Staff writers Claire Martin, Marc J. Spears, Mike Klis and Bill Williamson contributed to this report.

Denver fans have been pissing on Derrick Thomas' death for years. I'll be damned if I'm going to pretend to give a shit about one of their dead players.

I got to hear about how it was DT's fault for driving too fast on icy roads and being too stupid to wear a seatbelt.

As far as I'm concerned DW probably earned his bullet by being the same punk bitch he was on the football field.

Taco's been almost completely absent from this board for about 4 months, yet suddenly he's a regular again. As Frazod said, he's over here just waiting for this happen. Well, here you go Taco, you ****ing drama queen bitch. Now go post this at the shithole website of yours.

If I were going to speculate based on that article... it sounds like one possibility is that his crew cut in line as VIPs when they showed up at the club, someone who had to wait in line didn't like it, and said something to them inside the club resulting in an 'altercation'.

Anyways, I have seen Taco make insensitive comments about Derrick Thomas' death more than once. Certainly, depending on their deeds speaking ill of the dead is poor form. Yeah, he was being reckless and it led to his death. That doesn't mean someone should revel in it.

What if it came out that Darrent Williams had in some way provoked these gang members? It still wouldn't be right that they shot him, but would Taco come back in here and say "Well, ok, I guess he was tempting fate with the way he was behaving". Of course not.

But whatever the case, the point is for us to be better than that and not get even by sinking to the level where we take pleasure in someone's death.

Has he done it? Sure. Does that mean we should do it too? I don't think so.

I don't think any real harm was meant towards DW. A slight joke, maybe bad in taste or whatever, but they knew it, doubt it was malicious until you got riled up with the **** DT shit.

As one of the offending parties, I'll respond to this.

Oz is right.

It was gallows "humor," and in poor taste -- but it was not directed at Darrent Williams personally, never questioned his character. It was directed at the Broncos as an organization. Again, no excuses -- it's in poor taste. Alas, this site has a tradition of making light of dark events.

At least it was confined to here, and it's not like we were trolling on the Mange.

I'm also one of the folks who early on posted heartfelt condolences here AND ON ORANGEMANE about DW's death and Bronco Nation's loss. And I stand by that. I'm sorry he died. He didn't deserve to die. I understand the pain everyone who cares is going through.

So ... sorry to those who were offended.

Ever since then, he's been quoting me with his ever-so-clever "I know you are but what am I" style comebacks - as if his mental (or should I say menstrual) prowess wasn't on prominent enough display in his usual look-at-me threads. I'm happy to provide him with some entertainment though. Whatever I can do for humanity I want to do. I just wanted to make it clear that you're lying. You have never once seen me make a single comment about Derrick Thomas' death. Not once, not ever. The last time I made a comment about DT was in the Spring of 2001, after I happened across this article (http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:wRHQ8rHsLboJ:www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1571/is_15_16/ai_62024149+Derrick+Thomas+Children&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=2) about Derrick's children. After the fallout from that episode, I made it a point never to even mention his name on this site until last night when I came across "quote unquote" gallows humor against the innocent Darrent Williams. Phobia will back me up on this point. (PS gallows humor is typically reserved for the accused and convicted, not the innocent and freshly slain).

Also, Halfcan, I never once breathed ill about Lamar Hunt you doofus. Lamar Hunt was an honorable man. I wouldn't dare say ill about such a saint.

I apologize for my behavior last night, but I'd do it again. It was shocking after watching your fan base react to Lamar's passing, and how Broncos fans and others reacted to that loss, to see folks in this thread making jokes about Darrent's passing so soon after he was murdered. I saw red, and struck back in a way that I knew would be equally hurtful. It doesn't make it right.

Thats a cool story halfcan...Thats one you won't ever forget too.

Totally agree. rep.

From a Nuggets board...

Whenever there's a local crime of public interest, the talkshow of record is the Peter Boyles show on KHOW. This morning he's saying the cops know who the murderer is. He's a Crip with a long rap sheet who didn't target Darrent Williams in particular. He and his entourage were waiting in line to get into the club when the limo pulled up to the front. Darrent and his friends get out, and because it's their party, cut in line and go in. Supposedly the Crip (or one of his friends) yelled something at the group as they were going in about cutting in line, and one of Darrent's friends yells something back...perhaps "baiting" the gangbanger.

Once inside, the two confront each other again verbally. The Crip (and at least one of his friends) is kicked out of the club. They fume outside with revenge on their minds, apparently having no idea who Darrent Williams is or that he was a part of the group. I was saying yesterday to a co-worker that unlike basketball players, most football players aren't known by their faces due to wearing helmets. They wait and plan to "get them" when they leave. The party breaks up, they follow, and shoot.

Supposedly the murderer wakes up to find out who he killed, and splits for Las Vegas, and then goes to LA, where he's currently in hiding, covered by his gangland friends. This is obviously police speculation, based upon the SOP of gangbangers when the heat is on in Denver because "it's hard to hide in Denver if you're black" (compared to LA). The murderer is apparently not a kid, instead being a veteran gangbanger. The police have surveillance videotape and supposedly witnesses at the club have confirmed he's the guy.

The party was public. People got email invites, and it was advertised at Independent Records on Colfax. The email invite mentions Tatum Bell, DJ Williams, Darrent Williams (one other), JR Smith and Dermarr Johnson. Patty Calhoun, the editor of Westword, was reading from the email invitation, and said KMart was NOT mentioned anywhere. He WAS there, but left early without incident as he said.

Boyles gets this info from sources within the DPD which have given him information on other local crimes, and his info is as good as it gets. Not infallible, but ALWAYS ahead of the standard media and almost always correct.

DT was a worthless piece of sh*t as a father. "f*** and run Thomas" should have been strung up by his crab infested testicles and beaten to death by crack whores. His kids should then have been given the chance to personally piss on his dead body in repayment for the big fat nothing he gave them.

f*** DT and f*** you Iowanian. You're nothing but a punk shickensh*t who hasn't got the balls to say that kind of sh*t in a public forum. Ohhh, the big bad Chiefs fan neg repped me. I'm sooooo heartbroken. And, such class playing the cancer card on someone who's dealing with it in his family.

then after that

At least DT's kids won't miss out on all of that financial support he provided during his tenure as a dead beat dad.

And, I still say DT was a worthless f***. He littered the town with illegitimate kids and did nothing, nothing what-so-ever to take care of them. Yet you try to defend him like he was your dad or something. He wasn't was he?

All the DT haters fail to mention his charity which helped lots of kids over the years. Where is the evidence that he did not provide for his children. Some were never even proven by DNA samples-the women came forward after the fact to cash in. His estate was quit a sum of money, not to mention insurance and anything the NFl chipped in. There were several funds that collected money for his family. Lets not act like they received nothing and were starving in the streets.

I don't read every post on the Orange Mane, and typically ignore the arguments that Iowanian gets into because I don't like to read about baowes and puckered sphincters. You get into arguments with folks who you actually have a lot in common with on our board, Waj, and things take their natural progression.

Nevertheless, nowhere on our board did you find people cracking wise at DT's death the day after it happened, nor were people doing the same at Lamar's expense. Years after the fact, sure... A lot of people feel strongly about dead beat dads, and unfortunately DT has made himself an easy target in that regard (though he's not alone).

I'm honestly not sure how raking up that muck about him helps your cause any. If you're doing it to show what a bad guy I am, well, you probably didn't need the help. Brock has broken up with me for good, and Stevie Ray doesn't return my calls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to try this, I can do it. Some of you can too.

I will be here after the game, but probably not until friday.

Tomorrow Night's game is obviously huge for both teams. The Chiefs
are trying to gain a foothold of 2nd place in the division and increasing
their odds for at least a WC spot, with 1 W already vs the Chargers. The Broncos, coming off a tough division loss sunday night, need the win to keep pace with the Chargers and maintain their playoff standing.

Both teams are physically dinged and relying on some patchwork on the offensive lines and on defense.

Here is a link to the game injury report. I'm surprised at how few Chiefs are listed, considering how many have been missing games.
http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2006/11...t__broncos06a/

What weaknesses in the Chiefs will the Broncos try to exploit? What game plan will the Chiefs use to beat the Broncos?

Good luck. Happy Thanksgiving."

See, it's okay to shit on dead people as long as they've been dead for a while. You just don't want to do it while people are still in the "I'm making a memorial desktop and sobbing uncontrollably" stage.

You're correct Taco. I should probably downsize my vocabulary and type slower.

Find some that was unprovoked and we'll be ready to let the healing begin. use your mod power to peek into my rep and pm box and get back to me about the level of class exhibited on other posts. I treat every poster, exactly with the tone they use with myself and other Chief fans.

This isn't important. Its irrelevant.

I'll get down on my hands and knees; if you'd like a boost getting back on the cross, feel free to tread on me.

It looks like only one is going to fit, and since you're up there moaning about how unfairly you get treated at the Mane, I'll just leave you be...

No doubt, this thread should have had a fork in it and forgotten a long time ago.

Life is just so unfair sometimes-I just got a call telling me one of my Best Friends died in his sleep last night. He was 45 and in pretty good health. I talked to him last night at 10 and I guess I was the last to talk to him. I was suppossed to work tonight but I am in total shock.

He was just about the coolest person you could ever know-made friends in an instant-and always looked out for his family and friends.

RIP Mike- You were a Great person and you will be missed!

Sounds like drugs may have been involved.

Sorry to hear it. 45 is way too young to die.

The autoposy would tell the tale.

Unfortunate for him Halfcan. Give his family your thoughts about him, they would appreciate it.

I had a cousin die the same way. 40 years old and she just died in her sleep. It shocked us all. She was a real sweetheart and left the world with a husband and two great kids.
