You should really try LC's BBQ. 5800 Blue Pkwy. Well worth the drive.

It's one of my favorites... nothin fancy about the atmosphere, real laid-back joint. Excellent food right down to the fries and beans.

LC's website (http://www.lcsbar-b-que.nv.switchboard.com/)

I tend to answer LCs (5800 Blue Parkway, KCMO) and Oklahoma Joe's (3002 W.47th Ave. KCKS) to these kinds of questions.

To talk about the subject in the detail that I wish to, well, I'd be here all day.

I shouldn't have said "sucks".

I should have said "dissapointing after you've been to the original so many times." Same w/ the speedway location.

At least at Bryants you get full. Everytime I go to ZARDA's I drop $20 and leave hungry.

The casino branch is disappointing. It's a step down in quality,, but not too much. The portions are small.

But the Speedway location just flat out sucks. It was really awful when I went there in June.

The speedway location charges a quarter for an extra slice of bread..and serves wine by the glass.

Everything you need to know abut KC BBQ is here:
http://www.georgeblowfish.com/BBQ.html

If you're at MO 291 and US 40 in Independence, closest choices are:

1) Gates on 40 hwy 1 mile west of Blue Ridge Mall Wal-Mart
2) Smokehouse on 39th St. across from Indep Center Mall
3) Rib Crib (sucks, don't do it) Little Blue Pkwy Valley off I-70
4) Zarda's in Blue Springs on Hwy 7 and I-70.

Best non-BBQ food joints close by are:
Stephenson's Restaurant, US 40 and Lee's Summit Rd.
Big Biscuit (for breakfast) US 40 and Lee's Summit Rd.
Tim's Pizza US 40 in Country Meadows strip mall
Fun House Pizza US 40 and Noland Rd, 1/2 mi west on US 40
Dixon's Chili, US 40 and Blue Ridge, close to stadium.

Bates City is a hole in the wall in the other direction (down I-70) but has good BBQ and the best fries youve ever had in your life.

If you're downtown, lunch time only, Danny Edward's bbq is the only choice. Best burnt ends, period. Located right next to the new arena on the north side(Grand Ave). Also should note M-F.

That list made me spit out hot chocolate. Nevermind the fact that Rosedale's dry-ass, crumbly brisket contributes to it's 4 star rating(!), the real shocker was Famous Dave's getting the same rating as LC's, Oklahoma Joe's, and Jack Stack! Wow. I'm literally shocked.
I think you're an enemy of the state, now, for comments like that. I mean, at Famous Dave's, there are grill marks on the ribs! Sacrilege.

I like it that way. I never have to worry about waiting too long for a table when I've got a BBQ crave.

Woodyard is rated high here:

http://www.gasbbq.net/reviews.htm

Strange, they have Boardroom BBQ as out of business. It's never been out of business and won BBQ awards in '04. Their review was from '97. Maybe they don't know what they're talking about.

I think it's really good, but of course BBQ is really subjective. I don't think anyone would be disappointed.

Oh, and the above mentioned "gasbbq" link has Shorthorns BBQ rated high. I've eaten there three times and it sucks.

I'd like to be able to go there before the property is seized.

A quote from the end of my BBQ page:

"After 30 years of chewin' KC BBQ, that's my humble opinion. There's other places in town, but these are the one's I'm most familiar with. BBQ is a lot like politics or religion. Lots of opinions, lots of preferences, lots of arguments, lots of choices, especially here in KC. Here's a good place to learn more from people who'll give you the straight skinny."

I've had people beat me up saying Rosedale is the only true BBQ place to eat in KC, and anything else pales in comparison.

I've had people tell me Rosedale is Sh*t and wouldn't feed it to their dog.

I've had people tell me Gates is too spicy and their ribs suck.
I've had people tell me Bryant's sauce is too sour and their food sucks.
I've had people tell me Wyandot BBQ is the best in town. I hated it.

I never said Famous Dave's ribs were the best. Their brisket is good, their presentation is good, and their selection of sauces is unique. Obviously they're doing something right, or they wouldn't thrive and survive. I don't rank them with the best in the city. They're the best of the "chain" BBQ places that have come to KC, and I think they're better than KC Masterpiece.

I like L.C's and Oklahoma Joe's and Jack Stack. They all have strong points and weak points. My categories are general, just four steps on a staircase. You can argue each entry on each stairstep if you want to get anal about it.

So, as the quote says, everyone has an opinion, even you, Mr. Reaper.

And as far as dissing my BBQ reviewing skills, my massive girth and years of experience speak for themselves.

In closing, I can only add one more thing:

PFFFFFFFFFTH!!!!!

And that's all I have to say about that.

BTW: Boardroom closed about a year ago. It was over by the Kansas Sampler store at 95th and Antioch. I asked the Kansas Sampler people what happened to them, and they told me the IRS shut them down. Too bad, they had good BBQ.
