My 4 year old niece has been in and out of a hospital for the last two years. She weighs about 30 lbs and just does not eat. About a week ago they finally figured out what was wrong with her. The way I understand it, her brain is elongated and is trying to go through the hole that her spine comes up through. The doctor said if he hadnt seen her walk in the door he would have never believed it. Basically he described her already as a walking miracle. He said her whole nervous system should be shut down. Im not sure on the details of how they are fixing everything but emergency surgery is tomorrow morning around 5:30. Any prayers would be appreciated.

P.S. this is actually a members daughter. He hasnt posted in a long time but he is the one who told me about this site. I think his username is Rydogg58

Sorry to hear it. That has to be difficult.

I've got a new nephew in NicU right now also....but fortunatly he's not as ill. It has to be stressful on your family. Best of luck.

That's my sentament as well. It hurts more when it's a young child. Hopefully they'll get her fixed up as good as new. Please share her first name.

Thanks for all the prayers. Emily is actually already home and doing well. Pre surgery she was supposed to be in the hospital for 7-10 days. She was actually in there for 4 days. PICU for 2 days and then in a private room the other two. Her doctor said she recovered far better than he had imagined. She will have to have a MRI I believe every month for a while to make sure everything went well with the surgery. Again thanks, God never ceases to amaze.

Dang, sorry I missed this thread. Otherwise I would have stickied it and offered my prayers as well.

Glad to hear that it went okay, it is horrible to have to watch a small child suffer.
