The man involved in a lawsuit with the Juneau school district for his display of a banner reading "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" says through his attorney that he's a victim of abuse. Joseph Frederick was suspended five years ago after he unfurled the sign during the running of the torch for the 2002, Winter Olympics.

The case will go before the U.S. Supreme Court in March. Juneau school board representatives say Frederick was at a school-sanctioned event when Morse ripped down the banner. Their argument is that administrators have the responsibility to enforce School Board policy, part of which is to discourage drug use.

Frederick, who claims his right to free speech was violated when the sign was torn down and he was suspended. His attorney says Frederick and his father are in Asia, where his father teaches English language classes. They couldn't be reached for comment.
