BRUSSELS, Belgium An animal lover was mauled to death by cheetahs after entering their cage at a zoo in northern Belgium, authorities and zoo officials said Monday.

Karen Aerts, 37, of Antwerp, was found dead in the cage, Olmense Zoo spokesman Jan Libot said. Police said they ruled out any foul play.

Authorities believe Aerts, a regular visitor to the zoo, hid in the park late Sunday until it closed and managed to find the keys to the cheetah cage.

"Karen loved animals. Unfortunately the cheetahs betrayed her trust," Libot said.

One of the cats that killed Aerts was named Bongo, whom the woman had adopted under a special program. She paid for Bongo's food, Libot said.

Animal rights group GAIA called for the immediate closure of the zoo, located 55 miles northeast of Brussels, saying it was unsafe for both visitors and the cats.

Rudy Demotte, the Belgian minister responsible for animal welfare, sent a team to investigate.

WTF is this guy talking about? The Cheetahs did what Cheetahs do. They viewed her as food or possibly a threat then attacked and ate her. Then they took a nap.

Sometimes people love animals so much they forget that they are programmed by instincts to survive. Sure, those cats seemed loving when she was viewing them from outside of their cage, but once she entered she was an intruder to them.

If the Cheetahs get destroyed because of this woman's error, it will be a shame. While I feel bad for her, these animals are natually wild and just did what nature intended them to do.

Most likely a Belgian, Euro weenie. That would make her a Socialist with a superiority complex towards humans but with a guilt complex towards animals.

Man hit by semitrailer remains in hospital
The Capital-Journal
Published Tuesday, February 13, 2007

A Topeka man remained in critical condition Monday after being struck by a semitrailer Sunday morning on Interstate 470.

Topeka police said they first received a report of a man standing on the ledge of the S.W. Fairlawn bridge overlooking Interstate 70 but weren't able to locate him. A witness told police the man was jumping in front of passing vehicles.
Shortly after police received the call, a second report came in indicating a man had been struck by a tractor trailer on I-470 and S.W. Fairlawn. The first call reported the wrong highway.

Upon arriving on the scene, police found Stuart Williams, 41, in the far right, westbound lane of I-470.

Sgt. Ron Gish said Williams was transported to Stormont-Vail Health Center with life-threatening injuries.

Gish said the driver of the semitrailer didn't stop after the accident, and police are attempting to locate the driver for questioning. Witnesses said the truck was towing a "white-ended trailer with plain black mud flaps."

The Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident. Gish said Williams didn't appear to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Anyone with information can contact the Accident Reconstruction Unit at (785)368-9235 or Crime Stoppers at (785)234-0007.

Cheetah's are an endangered species, they definitely wont be destroyed..... especially over human error.
