Is ESPN on the verge of cutting ties with NFL analyst Michael Irvin?

One industry source believes the decision has already been made, and that some at the network view the outspoken Irvin as a ticking time bomb, ready to explode into a public-relations nightmare.

ESPN did not confirm or deny the report, but issued a statement, saying: "We are currently in the process of discussing studio assignments for next season."

There is speculation that newly retired Bill Parcells could end up at the network, but there is no indication that a deal is imminent.

I'd like to say it was because of the outstanding work he did on the Best Damn Sports Show...but it was far from outstanding.

When will Shannoing Sharpe get the axe? Every time he's on TV, I can't understand a word he says. Sounds like he's talking with a Q-Ball in his mouth.

Guess I'm in a very small minority here (maybe the only memeber?) but I like Irvin. I especially enjoy him on the radio with Dan Patrick. I don't always agree with what he says but to his credit he's not boring.

No, its the games and the content that draw the audience. I really think football fans could care less what race the commentators are.

I think your more on the right track. ESPN likes Irvin because hes controversial and that generates ratings..

I almost don't even watch ESPN anymore. MI will have no problem furthering his career as a commentator. ESPN is for East coast PC sports coverage. As each sport gets their own channel I just find myself going there to get my news.

Was Big Tuna any good for the short time he was on there? I remember seeing him on Sunday Countdown but I can't really remember any specifics as to how good he was.

I can live with that...it would help increase the amount of time spent talking about KC on the 90 minute pregame show from 3 seconds to 18 seconds.

We'll get plenty of airtime when we trade LJ to New York.

I odn't believe for a second that he raised their ratings one single bit, except for maybe the first few weeks, meaning 2 or 3 at the most.

Aside from that I truly hope they shed that jackass, and soon.

Heh...trading LJ to NY would bring us full circle back to Martymode, well, except the defense would be worse than the 90's and we'd have a severe lack of FB's to convert to RB's.

Converted FB's are so yesterday.

We're gonna convert TE's and MLB's to FB and THEN convert them to RB's.
