I know it's been mentioned before, but I thought it should be brought up again.

Dwight who?

Not that it matters.

I haven't watched that show since around '79-'80.

the first 5 years were the best by far.

the show has picked up (credit better writing?) in the last year.....

but has been dying a very slow painful death since 1980.

There have been a lot of lame years, but to pretend that the 87-@91 cast is not good is just wrong, c'mon. The @01'-04 cast was I think the 3rd place finisher.

You need to watch good television. Then you'd know.

Who was in the 87-91 cast?

Would that be the Will Farrell-Molly Shannon years?

The band sucks.
I liked the first song, hints of Black-47.
The second took all the wind of the sails, big stinkin' whiff of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

That era of SNL 87-93 or so was my personal fave. Some great comedic talent in there.

The original cast from 75-79 or so was great too and of course fondly remembered because of the great names but they also had their share of bad skits...

You also overlooked the cast of the early 80's with Eddie Murphy (arguably the greatest talent to ever come out of SNL) and Joe Piscapo.

I agree, the first song was pretty good. I don't know why they chose that as their second song. Arcade Fire is a great band. Funeral is one of the best albums of the last few years.

Rainn Wilson (sp?) plays Dwight on The Office.

I had to look it up for those of us who watch neither show.

Well, based on those two songs, I don't have a good feel for their sound [besides the audio mix being muddy]. Who would you liken them to?

Hmmm, that's a tough question. I know they have collaborated with David Byrne and David Bowie separately, so I'm sure they draw inspiration from both of them, although its not really fair to compare their music to those two icons. I would recommend checking out Funeral, or maybe just go to Pandora and listen to a couple songs.
Here's a review that will do a better job of describing them than I can: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/15201/Arcade_Fire_Funeral

The opening segment was quality when Lorne Michaels was imitating the Michael Scott.
