I love that this has become the standard reference to Bonds' "record".

McGwire saved baseball in 1998 when the sport was still experience a low fan base since the 94 strike. McGwire and Sosa put baseball back on the map in the USA. It was one of the best things to happen to American sports in recent US history. McGwire belongs in the HoF regardless of what he was accused of doing. Same with Sosa simply for that reason that they saved the sport. Don't know what this has to do with the thread title, but this is JMO.

They do deserve to be there because MLB helped create this mess in the first place. They turned a blind eye to steriod abuse for too long and are only now trying to clean up the mess left over form the 90's. They knew exactly what was going on but didnt care because buiness was booming, the bleachers stayed full and it helped keep interest high in the sport.

If it wasn't for Balco getting caught they would still be turning a blind eye. Baseball only cared because the general public found out and was upset.
