View Full Version : In light of their tragic offseason, should Denver get compensatory draft picks?

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, just curious if y'all think they should, because I don't think we got one when we lost DT.

Did the Chiefs get compensation for Joe Delany?

No, and I'm still pissed the rule of giving away draft picks for coaches. Especially giving STL a 2nd rounder for Dick Vermeil after he retired. It's just a bullshit rule.

You have to have something there so that coaches' contracts mean something. Why should they be able to just say, oh I'm retired - oh, now I'm un-retired, I can just leave and go wherever I want.

In the future a NFL team could lose half a team in a bus/train/plane wreck. They should get picks and help like an expansion team. But a player or two, no.

Definitely not. I feel bad for what's happened in the off-season for the Broncos, but compensatory draft picks makes no sense and it trivializes the lives lost.

It should be a 2nd day pick then. Coaches dont play on the field. A 2nd rounder for a coach?!?! I just dont agree with that. Coaches don't make as much as the players anyway.

How about the dumbass in charge just goes out and hires a coach who isn't under contract with another team?

Why? Cause a player got shot? It's a tradgedy but so are many things in life. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time nut there may be a reason for it. I say let the donkeys sink in their own ignorance.

Wonder how many fans/team mates would do their team a "favor" in their eyes. If this got practice started.

Absolutley not!!

Anyone who thinks they should is delerious. If a player retires should a team get a draft pick? No.

SNR
02-25-2007, 05:23 PM
Yes.

The Chiefs also need compensation for the losses of Mack Lee Hill, Joe Delaney, and Derrick Thomas.

Because of the large delay, the interest on the compensation will bring that compensation out to around... oh... say... the first three picks of the draft.

We'll just expand the 1st round to 35 picks and have the Raiders pick at #4. It's no big deal.

The Broncos can have a 6th rounder.

The Chiefs have also lost Lamar Hunt and Hank Stram with less than two years apart from each other. There's an additional 3rd rounder for us to grieve our losses.

I think so, they've lost two players from unforseen death. I think the least NFL could do would be give them an extra sixth rounder.

I already read them, which is why I chimed in with my input. Because I obviously disagree. Does other peoples opinions always change yours so easily? I'm not fickle. Like I said, there is nothing the Donks could do to stop this from happening. It is not like it is their fault, just give them a sixth round pick, and be done with it.

I don't think compensatory picks could be given even for a player dying during team related activities or even on the field due to the extreme amount of rules and regulations that would have to govern such a death.

For the NFL to put anything like that in writing would be bad press for them. It would be scrutinized endlessly, and I'm sure someone would bring up the fact that they are essentially placing a tangible "value" on the head of every player that is under contract.

No, they'll already get cap relief as they'll be able to pay the players' families the remainder of the contracts and not have to count any of it against future caps. (At least that's what happened with Oakland when they lost a number pick about 9 years ago.)

PBJ FirstDownSamie PBJ

All leagues have that scenario addressed in their CBAs (very basic stuff). If a team loses most or all of its members in a crash there would immediately be an "expansion" type draft with the remaining teams in the league to restock the franchise.

I think sports teams need to focus more on a players health more than ever. Athletes need more testing and checkups, more than a regular person because their bodies sustain more than a normal person.

By the way, the Celtics were robbed of the greatest modern dynasty when Len Bias died.
