As I was driving back from lunch I heard a radio ad for a local jewler talking about giving a gift to your wife/gf/whatever to celebrate her just giving birth. The specific item was a pink or blue saphire necklace depending on the gender of the baby.

I don't have kids so perhaps I've missed something but I've never heard of such a thing. Have any of you?

Attached is a poll with potential just became a mom gifts. Pick and discuss please.

Surprise. A Jeweler promoting giving jewelry.

Everyday would be a give a 'Hallmark card day', if they had their way.

By the time my son was actually born, I was more concerned about how we were going to pay for all the bullshit our insurance didn't cover. The last thing on my mind would have been buying her an effing piece of jewelry.

When I was born my father gave my mother a watch with an inscription on the back.

Along the same lines, I was going to say a nightly pearl necklace for the same reason.

A can of garlic salt and a card that reads "Don't forget to eat the after birth" is always a nice thought.

Thanks Rooster. I didn't really want to eat dinner tonight anyway and after that comment I definetly have no appetite. :shake:
