i think what maher meant was without cheney in office, the us might not have been led into the war with iraq. HBO will not pull the plug on real time, this is what they wanted when he came over from abc.

Not really. Bill pretty much said the country would be better off with him dead.

Of course, he is a comedian. If it were some politician or journalist being 100% serious I'd feel completely different about the statement.

He did not say that he was sorry the assasination had failed. But he did insist that the 3000 plus American lives and the 50,000 Iraqi lives lost are heavily related to Cheney's decisions in this administration. And that continued presence could lead to doubling both those numbers.

You may hold the idea that those lives are lost with purpose. The consensus of the panel and Maher, (it included conservative views) was that the use of word wasted by Obama and McCain may really reflect the situation. Indeed it was in this vein, a discussion of PC policing of statements that included discussing the PROPOSITION that WE would be better off if Cheney were dead.

That is different than saying you want Cheney to die. And with our present knowledge of the situation in Iraq, denigrating this administration is like shooting ducks in a barrel or lawyers in the face.
