Assuming we sign Napoleon Harris to play the Mike, would you guys rather keep Kawika and move him outside or let him go and bring in Donnie Edwards to play a couple of years before he retires?

Kawika is going to get far more money than he's worth so I'm passing on him.

Sure.....While i was never a huge Donnie Edwards fan, even at his worst he was better than Kawika has ever been.

I want a "STUD" MLB

I'd rather get someone new and young, but if Edwards came cheap I'd take him. Mitchell isn't worth the money he would want, especially in this insane free agent market.

Pollard will be the new MLB. Gunther always has a player to convert.

If we're talking either/or, then Kawika by a longshot. Edwards is 34 years old. I've seen enough of the Lew Bush, Marvcus Patton, Glenn Cadrez guys on the wrong side of the hill kind of player here in KC. Give me the 27/28-year old who's shown consistent, almost drastic improvement over the last three years.

Donnie Edwards will be a bad ass OLB in the cover 2 if he comes, but it still leaves us with a problem of having to find another OLB to replace him in a couple of years when he retires.....so I see it as bittersweet. Kawika is fairly solid considering the d-tackles he's had in front of him since he's been here.

I'm just not comfortable paying Kawika Mitchell 30+ mill with a double digit signing bonus.....and he's probably going to get that.

I'd argue that Kawika regressed this past year even though he improved previously. He might be better at OLB than MLB, but he could also be worse.

Actually that's not a bad idea. Although MLB is probably expecting too much I could foresee either Pollard or Page playing OLB. The trouble with both those guys is I don't really see them having the ideal speed to play safety in the cover 2. Thomas Davis made the shift from SS to OLB for Carolina and has done a good job...but either Page or Pollard would have to bulk up quite a bit pronto.

I'll say Donnie Edwards and hope that we draft a suitable replacement in the next year or two.

Donnie is a young 34.

He is still playing a very high level and I think he has played in all but two games during his career. Extremely durable player.

yes it is, run stopping DT's that suck up the OLine so the DE's can get to the QB.

Cover two can work with either bigass fireplug tackles or with mobile tackles. Like every other defense it's a matter of utilizing the talent you have in the way that best suits their abilities.

The question is how much overall talent we have, and whether we have a defensive staff capable of...anything.

I can agree with this, the topic of the thread was about getting donnie edwards or resigning KW for MLB. I say neither. Go after Harris and give fox (or even griffen) the OMB

Herm comes from Tampa which means he's going to want quick penetrating sack DT's........Warren Sapp......he loved Dewayne Robertson. You probably won't see the Chiefs looking for any huge guys who just eat space and clog holes.

Athletic sixth-year defensive tackle joined the Chiefs as a free agent on June 13th A physical performer who frequently demands the attention of two blockers

None of them are big DTs. Reed is a bit undersized and the other to are average sized.

Without taking salaries into account, I would prefer Mitchell. Edwards is just too damn old and is small and timid. I can't remember ever seeing Edwards hit anyone.

Bell is a solid starter in my opinion, an if DJ can keep on pregressing then we can afford to have a guy like kawika in the middle, the problem is kawika its ryan simms an dalton an the people we have in front of him, get a stud DT an kawika plays much better

I have never been impressed with kweaka-he makes way to many mistakes. Donnie is a smart LB but rarely makes a big play.

I will pass on both.

I went and pulled out ProFootball Weekly's draft guide from last year and here is what it said about Pollard:

Big banger who has enought size to add bulk and become a Cover 2 linebacker.
