They aren't going to give him that number. That is just the number he's worn with his two previous teams.

He's listed as #0 on the Chiefs website.

According to KcChiefs.com he hasn't been assigned a number.

Also Harris wore 58 when he was a Viking. I doubt he'll get 58 as a Chief. Red and Gold #58 won't be worn again.

#58 has been permanently retired with the Kansas City Chiefs. You will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever see anybody with #58 in a Chiefs uniform again.

Yeah, well I hope it's a typo and it's only temporary. I didn't know his # was rightly retired.

If it were on kcchiefs.com, I might worry. As it is, there's no way they'd let it happen.

Move along...nothing to see here.

Did you also mention that it's teh least they could do for the guy...
It's not like he brought football back from certain death in K.C. or anything.

Fox sports has got a database on their computer system. This database contains their NFL information.

There is probably a table called "players", where each player has a row with information like their name, their number, and what team they play for.

What probably happened is that when news of the signing broke they changed his team from "Vikings" to "Chiefs", but they didn't update the number field.

I'm sure he will end up choosing a new one.

It's going to happen eventually......lots of teams allow new players to wear past greats numbers after so much time passes.

You can't retire 20+ numbers in the NFL just due to how the number system works.

100 years from now, there will be 3 digit uniforms. Retiring numbers is not for everybody. I'm with Tribal Warfare and Mecca on this issue.

And I love what Lenny Dawson, Jan Stenerud, Buck Buchanan et al have done for this franchise, and for the KC community.

Not meaning to nitpick, but wasn't Bobby Bell #78? Jack Rudnay was #58.

But then again, I'm all distracted and flustered by your sig photos, so what do I know?

That is what I thought also. Isn't Lenny's number retired also, hence why Montana didn't wear it.

The Chiefs haven't offically retired it but its pretty much retired along with 19 and 32. No body, not even training camp scrubs, have worn those two numbers either since Montana and Allen have retired.

That's humerous those are OTHER teams HOF players not ours, they just made a pit stop here.

Hey if no one wears 16 on the Niners I get it but cmon Montana here?

Actually, I've heard they're going to let him wear old #58 jerseys to save money, so it's actually going to say "D. Thomas" on the back as well as "58".....
