I thought I read when we signed Jarred Allen as a draft choice that he had time in college as a long snapper? I know he battled with Kendall Gammon on the locker room show long snapping trying to dunk someone in a water tank by long snapping into the bullseye button.

First comment in the Star is priceless....

"That bum didn't deserve $670,000 to snap the ball 10 times a game. It's people like Kendall Gammon and Preist Holmes that take up our salary cap and prevent us from being a contender"

That $670,000 is really sinking us into the lowest depths of cap hell.

Anyone know if Darche plays any other positions?

Sounds good, unless I hear something about insane amounts of money.

Losing Gammon should bring our team's age waaaay down.

He's a UFA and older than Redrum's Mom, maybe they both should retire.

Your mom has quite a long history of being a long snapper too

The guys a great long snapper.. He never had a single bad snap in all his time with the Hawks..

Plus he recovered a fumbled punt once..;)
If he's healthy you have yourselves a great LS

Does he back up at LB or something, or is he strictly a Long Snapper?

Since Joe gave a good report this works for me. Gammon is great at what he does and will have no problem finding a job if he wants one. I also often wondered if having a younger more athletic long snapper would help the punt coverage some as well.

He is just a long snapper, no long snapper really plays another position in the NFL today.

getting younger at safety/WR/QB/OL could mean something

we need to get younger.

GoHuge
03-07-2007, 05:01 PM
Should it matter if your getting old if you do your job perfectly? Does anybody remember how much fun it was holding your breathe before every kick when he got hurt? Oh well, Tynes is missing 23 yarders so I guess a few bad snaps justs adds to the pile. Hopefully we can find somebody that is better than perfect. It must be bad at Arrowhead if there long snapper is losing a step.

Exactly. We instantly go from one of the oldest teams to one of the youngest merely by cutting Gammon.

Lets see.....a solid long snapper, almost a decade younger than Gammon who can actually get downfield to cover a punt....and probably is cheaper.

Gammon has been great in KC....but he's old, can't run, broke his leg a year ago and probably was needing to retire anyway.

Not a bad move at all.

Johnson was only PS for about 1/3rd the season last year. The difference is Johnson can actually catch the ball and make plays. He made some quality catches when I saw him during OTA's last year, both the open practice and closed practices. I was really impressed with him. I'm not saying he's an All-Pro TE but if he can snap the ball consistently he could contribute as an actual backup at the position.
