Texans, Black agree to deal
March 08, 2007
By Nick Schenck
HoustonTexans.com

It took little time for Jordan Black to decide that the Texans were the right fit for him.

The offensive tackle from the Kansas City Chiefs toured Reliant Stadium and met with coaches and other front office personnel Thursday morning. By the afternoon, he had agreed to a contract.

Black will compete immediately for a starting tackle position, either on the left or right side, depending on the health of left tackle Charles Spencer, whose season-ending leg injury continues to heal.

With experience at both guard positions, and both tackle positions, Black is a versatile addition to the Texans’ offensive line. His size (6-5, 310) and speed are his biggest assets. He also has played in every game the past three seasons, which is a welcome sign for the Texans, who had an injury-depleted line in 2006.

From Rotoworld:

Texans agreed to terms with T Jordan Black on a two-year, $3.5 million contract. The deal included a $1.2 million signing bonus.

Black is average at best, but is there really that much of a difference between him and Langston Walker? Black can play every position on the line and will provide competition at the tackle spots.

How good will he be in the ZBS?

That could be a huge issue.
But this guy can't be that good, or we couldn't afford him because so many other teams have far more cap space than we do and this is a young, but experienced OT. Teams pay huge contracts/premiums for players like that. Look at the deal the Cowboys gave to Leonard Davis, who might even play guard but no more than RT, definitely not LT from reports.
Lets hope this isn't the second coming of Todd Wade and we sign him, again.

The Texans should be the franchise that is forced to sell and moved to LA. Good god, how can they not see that it is their OL that has been killing them for years and how can they think Black is a solution at tackle? If Carr was smart he'd pull his hammy on the first snap of the first preseason game and never step on the field again.
