View Full Version : Got a photograph into an art gallery

Springfieldians...you should check out Bellwether Art Gallery during Friday's art walk. One of my pieces is being shown for the month of April. It feels good to keep the ball rolling with different gigs and exposure of this nature...the piece will be on sale for $100. This should be one of the better art walks in a long time with the nice weather and all.

I agree. If anybody would pay $100 for that picture I can save them a lot of money. I would center it better and include the whole building. That looks like the photographer was falling down when the camera went off.

That looks like the photographer was falling down when the camera went off.Its not my favorite picture but it did do what I wanted it to do. Centering that house would make it more pedestrian and would generally be uninteresting. I am not a rigid follower of the rule of 3rds but its a golden rule of photography and applies pretty well here. The picture brings in the viewer by putting the top of that interestingly styled house not front in center but cast against an ominous sky. It makes you think beyond the house.

the shadowy clouded sky is semi-circular and pulls your eye from part of the building around the rest of the picture and back to the building. It has classic good composition, not my favorite of yours either, but it's not bad at all.

I just saw that on "the drop's" website and I didn't see a bigger one. It was from a bar downtown. Sadly enough I am on 75% of the bars mailing list in kansas city. I guess that is the way it is for a rolling stone like me.

Unusual composition. At first glance I thought I understood your hesitation at embracing this frame, but with concentrated viewing, the brown wall becomes a major element of the composition (it "peaks" near the center of the frame) even though it's a minor element of the building itself. I especially like the angular tension between the green facade and the brown wall, which is softened by the organic white curves of the architectural ornament that echo the curves in the clouds. It took me a while to let go of the building and look at the picture, but it was worth staring at for a while until I could really see the picture and divorce it from the object.

Fine work, Zach. Congratulations on getting it shown.

I connect with visual art more than anything else man has come up with yet.

Strangely though, the more I've learned about it, the more I see artistic principles and mathematical principles as being two approaches toward the same destination.

I am not as perceptive, being honest but my favorite art is photography. The most expensive art piece in my home is a photograph.

Thats an interesting question. Yes and no. On one hand I like Springfield. I have been here 5 years and it has been pretty good to me. Met a lot of amazing people and had some great times. When I committed to KC I was of the mind that Springfield has pretty much done all it can for me and I am ready for the next thing but has time goes on I have molded some pretty good working relationships and and opened some unexpected doors. There is a lot more promise in KC but there are also a lot more people doing what I will be doing...I guess I will just have to be that much better. I look forward to Kansas City...a lot. But part of me feels I am leaving a pretty good situation.

Thanks for the kind words and interesting perspective. I did a few things to it that improved it just a bit for show. I don't have the example on my computer but I did some level work on it. Made the whole thing a bit brighter (not overly bright) and more importantly brought out the green in the building some more. This made the building stand out on itself more but the "gloomy" nature of the picture and the buildings smallness against the sky was left intact.
