It's mediocre pay for a mediocre kicker. People honestly have horrible reactions to missed kicks. There are far worse kickers in this league than Tynes.

Thanks, Mr. GoChiefs.

And you're right. I, for one, react terribly to missed kicks. Sometimes I spit and fart simultaneously.

As for worse kickers in the league, I'm sure you're right. I just don't want one of those. I prefer better kickers.

Are you kidding me? How about that clown Vanderjagt? The Chiefs were 20th in field goal percentage last season. That's not great, but it's not horrible.

Tynes is a young kicker and needs to be given a chance to mature. There's nothing better out there.

Where kickers are concerned, there usually isn't a great difference between 20th and 10th. There are a few elite kickers, a bunch of guys like Tynes and then some real stinkers.

No, but there are 32 teams in the NFL, and the average is at 15.

20 is below average. Not good enough.

SO how long do you wait before he becomes an elite kicker??? Since you said wait for him to mature?

this will be his 4th year coming up?? SHouldnt he be matured by now??

One other thing, with a more conservative Hermie offense, having a kicker who is consistent and reliable now becomes more critical.

BUt 20th in the league is not very good.....oh well...i guess we are stuck with him for better or worse....

The reality is that there are very few elite kickers, and in most cases kickers bounce around for years before they settle in with one team and start to show some consistency.

That, or they kick pretty well for a time, and then just start declining and bounce around for a few years.

Tynes has the potential to mature into a very good kicker.

Might as well let him do it in KC.

It's not that simple, as I said. Tynes is clearly not a below average kicker.

The keyword being: hopeNo, the keyword is not hope. The keyword is 'best'. As in "he's the best available". If he doesn't improve an iota, he's still better than anybody else we could bring in. That's the reality of the market. Unless you want to go with someone even worse and "hope" he gets better.

Does anyone else remember the Tynes interview before this season when Tynes was saying something like, "They used to want me to kick directional kicks, which hurt my distance. If they turn me loose I should really be able to get lots of touchbacks."

Or something like that. I didn't see many touchbacks, but I sure saw a lot against us...or ones that should have been touchbacks...which brings up Dante...

I can't even go there. I'm already upset.

I like Tynes. Glad we have him back. Now do your job, bud.

Count Alex's Wins

Well, he did improve his distance slightly by dumping the directional kicking. But only slightly. Personally I think our coverage teams are the biggest weakness, not Tynes.

I go and kick them through the "H" in the Hollywood sign.

It's kind of uphill, and you have to be on the lookout for rattlesnakes, but it's good practice.

Ther's an exposed scrub brush root that makes a perfect tee.

It is what it is with Tynes. At least he has some potential upside.

I was not down with Olindo Mare, a kicker who is declining. If we gave any pick, let alone a 6th, for him. Wow! not good.

The re-signing doesn't bother me. There isnt exactly a lot of options out there, plus as stated above, he does have some potential upside.

That was just par for the course, what with what the rest of the O was doing (or NOT doing). I really think there was some voodoo or juju or some kind of hijinx at play that day. Man, what a friggin' mess up!

Somebody found a box of Chiefs Kryptonite and snuck it into our jocks that day.

The overall quality has gone downhill at an unbelievable rate in the last 10-15 years. Watch the kickers on some big-time college programs, they're absolutely awful. I'll take Tynes over 'Bama's pathetic kicker anyday. I believe he missed 4 kicks and an extra point in the Ark game last year.

$850k moves him up eight spots to 18th place based on last year's numbers. It's also almost triple what he made before.
And it's $200k less than Mare, if OM was actually his competition.
