OK Planteers, you came through for me before and it is time do it again. I am looking for the best BBQ restuarant in the KC area that serves smokehouse style meats.

I want:
the name of the restuarant
an address for the restuarant
website if they have one
what is your favorite dish from there
what is their signature dish
and an idea of pricing

Pardon, but I am going to skip the big breakdown.

I think one would be hard pressed to beat the pulled pork sandwich from Oklahoma Joe's. They are a restaurant located inside a gas station. Look em up. :)

As far as I'm concerned the McRib is the best sandwich McDonalds has ever made. I'm serious when I say that. But I'm a big pork fan, so I may be slightly biased.

Back before the influx of hispanic immigrants, it was common for fast food restaraunts to be employed by white teenagers. I did my time at the McDonalds in Grandview, and along with the Chicken Nugget sandwich and tripple quarter pounder, the tripple McRib w/cheese was my favorite creation. I would use the dehydrated onions for the burgers and sautee them on the grill, then mix them with the real onion chunks. That was one tasty samich.

As for real BBQ, I go to OK Joes once a week and have tried a good portion of their menu. I don't care for their sausage, but the only item that I would recommend against is the hog heaven sandwich. The most popular is the Z-man, which is $6 by itself. Add fries and a drink, and you have yourself lunch for over $9. For $11.95 you can get the half slab dinner which includes a side, (I go with the fries), and a drink for $13. I am big, and fat, and eat a lot. I can not finish the half slab with fries. I can eat my fill during lunch, take my leftovers home and get enough for a full meal for supper as well, all for $13.

Somehow Gates always gets to the top of the BBQ list for their ribs. I think it is because everybody likes the old guy with the top hat and they like the shock factor of getting yelled at when you walk in the door. It is a common scene to see the group of people walk in with somebody who has never been there before, and everybody over overreacts to the newbies surprise of getting yelled at as soon as they walk in. I can regularly make ribs as good as Gates, and I don't care for frozen ALDI's fries or having to sign 6 different receipts when paying with plastic.

I want "smokehouse" meats(sausage, beef, pork, poultry...). I want platters of food not a freakin' sandwich. Certainly KC has something better to offer than a sandwich. I can go to Price Chopper for that.:shake:

No, Phil would likely kick my ass at pulled pork. My specialties are brisket and beans. My beans can't be beat, but it's imperative that I'm cooking a brisket at the same time. The sauces that I make are pretty damn good, too. One's a spicy that I like, the other is a sweet that my wife likes.

I'd not mind, but the commander in chief might.

I like to cook, and BBQ, but I know I'm probably not the best. My dad on the other hand, great stuff, lives at the lake and has three grills and a big ass smoker.......

always cooking too, pork tenderloin, ribs, chicken, etc. then just offering to anyone around, neighbors, boaters going by, "here, have some food"

Pork Butt is 10x easier than brisket. It's usually the first thing people learn to Q because it doesn't take much expertise to be tasty.

I'm the opposite. I'm not a huge fan of brisket. I like it and I can do it well but I find it sits in the fridge with nobody eating it. The pulled pork goes fast in my house so that's what I do. I have to be careful not to smoke stuff too often or I'll have more chili meat than I can eat the chili.
