It's pretty damn murky, but it's not going to cost Bush his job.
He stretched the bounds of decency with the Iraq War, and while his entire party is paying for it politically, he won't be paying with his job.
Even if he did, Cheney could probably be sealed from responsibility and survive the hailstorm to ascend to the Office and become the most unpopular President ever.

We could definitely seal him off.
He'd fare well in an email investigation. I'm still not entirely sure he understands the internet.

Much as I dislike BushCo, it takes a Saddam Hussein or a Pol Pot to make Nixon look like an angel.

No. There are plenty of other things to go after him with. I think that the inside job stuff will languish for decades like the JFK assassination.
For what it's worth, I think you'd have to be just as gullible to believe the official government 9/11 story as you'd have to be to believe the official JFK/LHO story.

i had thought that the big liar was cheneyburton...
besides, everyone knows the president can't speak english very well...
especially unscripted english...
he seems to get a little tongue-tied when pressed to speak in public...
but he is still the president even though he makes me laugh sometimes...

actually i've outlasted several heavy big time drinkers who are sprawled around my house...
and i don't drink very often and i usually just go to sleep when i do, but tonight was almost magical...
now, if i could just get the magician to show me the way to my bed i'll be fine...
except tomorrow is going to be a real headache (pun intended) when i wake up...

You don't think the Democrats are gearing up for something big here? They've been pretty methodical in building their case, and have been gaining speed since the Libby indictment. I'm suprised that you're oblivious to it.
I would be shocked if the Democrats didn't try to make an impeachment run before 2008. I think they see by the end of 2007 as their viable window for such a strategy. It's pretty well now Between now (and maybe July/August) or never. And with all the corruption being uncovered, the pump is being pretty well primed.
I'm not sure why this is being received as a radical thought. This is the weakest president politically since Warren Harding (save post-impeachment Nixon), and the Democrats have been increasingly aggressive since taking over.

The premise of this thread is rediculous.
Lets assume the worst is true, just for the sake of arguement. As much as some may naively protest otherwise, the positions occupied by the fired attorneys are, were, and always will be purely political positions. They serve at the pleasure of the president so long as they follow his policies, or at least avoid antagonising the administration. Firing a bunch of lawyers who were political appointies for partisan reasons is about as controversial as a Senator holding up nominations from receiving a vote (or the Senate body voting them down) for purely political reasons.
Even if you grant the worst darkest conspiracies that arent completely looney, you have a bunch of lawyers occupying political positions fired in a manner that is not new except for the number in a short amount of time. Even then, this is a non-issue, has been ignored, and will continue to be ignored by all but the political nerds like us.
As laughable and weak as "Whitewater" was during Clinton, this will become even less of an issue, and more of an obscure $1,000 Jeopardy question.

When I see that democrats are making jokes about it, it makes me think that that might be the case.
"We'll see a Kucinich Administration before we'll see a Cheney impeachment," quipped one Democratic aide.

Oh yeah... Gotta give it up for the anonymous Democratic aide. I'm sure that person is the point person of which you speak within the Democratic brain trust...
...but for what it's worth, I'm not saying the Democrat strategy is going to work. I'm just commenting that I think that they're going to go for it.

Your prediction is noted as well as your disclaimer. Who knows, you may end up being right. I just don't think this is a sign of it. I think Kucinich is on his own here.

Gotta delurk for a moment:
Somehow I doubt the Democrats (other than Kucinich) are seriously looking to impeach Cheney or W. Assume that Pelosi could pass articles of impeachment. Short of a recording of Bush or Cheney ordering the attack/demolition of the World Trade Center, they'll never get a conviction in the Senate. In the meantime, they've wasted all this time when they need to be out raising money and kissing babies, they look like major league assholes (to borrow a phrase) and they've got nothing to show for it. Doesn't sound like a good recipe for winning in Nov. '08 to me.
I think Kucinich is out pretty much by himself. He's a well-known liberal. This probably isn't much of a surprise to his constituents, so he can afford this type of position. Other Democrats who need to present a more conservative image can't afford his zeal. And I think StcChief's sentiments above would be widely shared in the event of an attempted impeachment.
The Democrats are certainly capable of mismanaging campaign strategy, but this seems pretty obvious to me. Maybe I'm missing something.
Relurking...
