View Full Version : Crap ....... got some kind of Computer virus

maybe not so much of a virus as some kind of Kiddie script.

it has changed the properties in windows so now when i left click on an icon the properties/find target screen pops up.

i still right click like normal ..... in fact, if i right click on it and choose "open" then it's fine.

if left click like normally within the browser and within programs

it only does it on my desktop icons

if i actually go into the folders and click the application .Exe it opens like normal. If i create a shortcut anywhere other than my desktop it works like normal.

any suggestions about who to change it back .... its the only change i found so far.

thanks

1. Make sure you're not holding your mouse backwards. If you are not skip step 2.
2. Turn your mouse around.
3. Right Click My Computer (Or in your case left click...?) Anyway hit properties.
4. Go to Hardware Tab
5. Click on the Device Manager
6. Go down to Mouse and other pointing devices.
7. On the general tab hit troubleshoot and follow the instructions. (Hint: I doubt this will fix anything, I just want to see if you'll actually go through that whole troubleshooting thing.)

If that doesn't work, use Linux.

Heh. Do people really think that you can't use a two button mouse on a mac?

Get a webtv. They are virus proof. They don't need a separate forum on here to deal with computer f*ck ups.

Nah. They've got Mighty Mouse (http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/) instead now. I'm actually not sure if they ship standard yet or not. I'd guess they don't, as I still haven't used or seen one. My wife uses a Wacom tablet, so we had to upgrade her G5 anyway.

Sounds like something a simple format c: would take care of.

Cool. That must be fairly recent. My mom bought her G5 about 1.5 years ago, and she still got the craptastic old mouse.

Yeah. I've wanted to try one. Leave it to Apple to overcomplicate something really simple. Still, I've always been amused by their stubborn refusal to switch over to the industry standard on the mouse until they were able to reinvent and "improve" that standard.

The Kids' Computer is a Mac,

Its broken now.. they deleted the utilites folder and i cant install any new applications including the driver for this Wireless network dongle.

I cant reinstall OS X because the DVD Rom drive is broken.

I have to wait for my buddy who has an external Drive and install off of that.

but other wise I just let the 3 and 4 yr old have at it with the mac

I had this kind of issue a while back... plus, when I'd try to open anything from the Start menu, I'd get some Windows error like "cannot execute the command" (or something like that).

I ended up finding some oddball issue on Google about a stuck key on the keyboard, and that ended up being the problem.
