On one of these threads, it's mentioned that film of Bush is circulating - he's horribly overweight and visibly limping.

Hell, I don't know but it sounded good. Oline can be had in the later rounds and I trust Herm's judgment when it comes to DBs. Plus, we could really use brusing FB to block for LJ and take those 3rd and 1 carries.

TrickyNicky
04-28-2007, 08:46 PM
Herm stressing character, doing interviews about bad character players and how they should be dealt with, and then drafting a guy who spit on a ref and assaulted a police officer would be my guess.

High motor, high-energy guy who is versatile enough to play both DT and DE. While he has good size at 6-4, he's only 275 which is a little light. But since we now have Turk McBride to stuff the middle, I think they complement eachother well. You can never have enough hustle players.

04-28-2007, 08:47 PM

He basically said Herm was one of the leaders on the charge for punishing players who screw up and all the character stuff.........then he turned around and drafted Tank Tyler a player with character issues.

Also, from the small bit of film they showed, he was firing up the defense. He could become a leader on our D.

banyon
04-28-2007, 08:48 PM
Any reason why?

Because we picked Tank Tyler.

Mortensen said in a very strained tone, "Herm was one of these guys who wanted to be on the character comittee and make it a big issue and now here he is drafting this guy with [insert crime]."

He was basically saying how could Herm do that and keep a straight face. Jaws talked him down and said Herm either thinks he can turn him around or that he passes "our test".

I agree too. Low cost, High reward.

I also like the way the Chiefs are rebuilding/retooling their defense, by starting off with the foundation of the defense, the front 4. Last year with Hali, and now this year with McBride and Tyler.

That line could be really really really good, if all things works out.

3rd is still pretty early to be taking big risks IMO. I don't claim to know much about the guy as a player or value, but I don't like the idea of taking a player who has been charged w/ assault on an officer and spitting on a ref. That's a bit more than character issues, he has an absolute disrespect for authority, plus some. As I said, I REALLY hope he has turned himself around, but if he hasn't it will suck to drop a 3rd on him and make Herm look like a real azz.

Good rotation on the defensive line especially with Turk versatile at DE and DT, and the linebacking crew looking good with additions of Edwards and Harris, Law showed he was in great form vs Indy and don't forget Bernard Pollard in the mix, so if we can get a solid corner tomorrow this defense could be very good. Of course some things have to work out along the line and Edwards and Harris have to fit the scheme. Alot of "ifs" but it's looking good.

One player Kuharich has definitely researched is Tyler. The Chiefs are in desperate need of defensive tackles, and Tyler has been labeled as one of the best in the draft.

The problem is that Tyler was suspended for part of North Carolina State’s game against Boston College for spitting on an official one week earlier. Tyler claimed it was an accident, but it certainly didn’t help his cause considering he was charged with misdemeanor assault of a Raleigh police officer the previous summer.

“Off the field, he’s had a couple of infractions that we’ve investigated,” Kuharich said. “We brought him in here and talked about it, and we’ll sit down and talk about it (as a staff), too.”

yeah we'll just go ahead and run LJ into the ground for awhile and keep our ahead above water on the offensive side of the ball, but there are question marks all over the offense, things will need to get puzzled out during spring training and throughout preseason. This offense will need a year to build yet. Next season we could be very good. I think we'll be better than people think this season also.

Can you even count LJ, Carl made the pick and Dick had a bitch fit about it for 2 years.

Good points. I suppose that is what Parker meant, as well. Sometimes I have to have comments like that explained to me.

Heh, ESPN just said that Quinn dropping to 22nd cost him around $49 million. Ouch.

I feel bad for the guy. Everything Brady Quinn has ever done is a class act. He had no reason to believe he wouldn't be a top 5 pick, but things just fell into place. Still I have no idea what in the hell Miami was thinking not taking him. I still can't understand why someone in the top 10 didn't just trade him for value. It just does not make since to me how a guy this good can fall that far. He has a cannon of an arm, played in an NFL system, went up against the top competition year in and year out, can pick apart coverages, and doesn't throw picks. You can't even compare him the Rogers debacle, because Rogers wasn't even that good.

The Browns have all the weapons for Quinn to be successful. Braylon Edwards, the soldier, and Joe Thomas should really help in protection even though their line will still kinda blow.

If I'm ranking the worst picks of the first day I'd have to go:

1) Ted Ginn to Miami
2) San Diego's 1st round reeeeach
3) Kevin Kolb to Philly
4) Jarvis Moss to Denver (because they traded away two picks to take a guy who they would have gotten at the same spot)

So far, I think the 49ers have done very well, as have the Falcons. Had the Lions drafted Quentin Moses and McCauley with their two late 2nds instead of that dude from Hawaii and the safety from Boise, they'd probably have the best draft of any team.

AS a fullback, no less. He tells a story about Aikman ripping into him for forgetting a play when he was in Cowboys camp. They asked Aikman about it a few years later, and he decided to stay on his good side so as to not have his ass whipped, Bill Brasky style.

We have some young, developing talent at those two positions. Our best player in the group, JA, may be headed out of town at the end of next season. I wouldn't call them strengths just yet.

I LOVE the youth movement, but we have a long way to go even if all 3 picks from yesterday pan out.

LT - Thomas
LG - Andruzzi
C - Fraley
RG - Steinbach

Lets say today we get 4 picks: a fourth for green, a fourth for our two fifths (not sure if we should do that), and our regular sixth and seven round choices.

I say we go CB, OL, CB, MLB, in that order.

I don't think we will draft more than one or MAYBE 2 (I highly doubt this) OL because of an article I read at kcchiefs.com, here is the important part of it:

If a fourth round pick is acquired, or even if it is not, Peterson said that the team “would like to get a corner” and not necessarily an offensive lineman, a position some had expected the Chiefs to look to fill in the draft.

“We did address the offensive line in free agency,” Peterson said. “We’re high on Damion McIntosh and we do have a lot of veteran players that have had starting experience on the offensive line. We have some versatility there.” McIntosh, who was acquired from the Miami Dolphins in free agency, is expected to fill the left tackle role which did not have a consistent starter there last year after the sudden retirement of Willie Roaf.

So heres to a Chief's good day 2 draft!

I know "what have you done for me lately" is the new philosophy, but it's pathetic and may come back to bite like it did SF when they got rid of Joe....and He was more broken down than Trent at that time in my opinion.

Yea let's start Trent too! Then we're exactly where we were last year....paid Huard for no reason and we have yet another year of not knowing what Croyle is.

How exactly did this come back to bite SF??? They made the playoffs every year with Young and won a SB a year after he left.

Developing a HOF QB and getting Dana Stubblefield.......boy the 49ers they sure got bit in the ass.

That team will be extremely difficult to defend.

I've said for years that teh Chiefs made a bad deal.

Montana gave them 2 years.

2 years return on a first round pick, regardless of how good that guy was for those 2 years is a bad investment.

"We've drafted the Ginn family..."

I've heard the Quinn family are good folks, too.

But hey, pass on a franchise QB for a kick returner/3rd receiver with the 9th overall.

I hope Phil Savage is sending some gifts to Miami, Buffalo, GB, and Jacksonville for passing on him.

Please don't give up any picks next year. It will be nice to have all 7 of our picks next year and a Top 10 or 15 pick. This is truely a rebuilding year we have to wait until next year to fill most of our needs.

Despite it all we will fare pretty well in this year's draft. Herm has a good ability to pick good players even in the later rounds. Everyone in last year's class made the team and if this year's class can do as well then we can truly have a strong foundation of young strong experienced players going into 2008 season. Add to this a great offseason of free agency moves and great draft in 2008 with 7 picks in each round and possibly a Top 10 or 15 pick now that will be something to look forward to.

This is the DRAFT. Draft coverage means you actually report who's been picked, comment on them, and keep the viewer informed of trades.

There's been 3-4 trades already this morning, and there's nothing said about them.
