We just drafted a downfield blocker for the running game.

Mecca

Bowe's a good pick.........that Rod Gardner comparison doesn't hold weight, Bowe is much more naturally talented.

04-28-2007, 03:46 PM
We need to work on drafting higher.

Sully
04-28-2007, 03:47 PM
Slow off the line, slow speed, no breakaway, not good in traffic. He may be smarter, but he is the same receiver otherwise.

Mecca

And NE gets another STUD........Merriweather will be a star.

cdcox
04-28-2007, 03:49 PM
If you want the big physical guy, take Jarrett. If Jarrett is too slow for you, take Meecham. Both put up bigger numbers in college that Bowe. I expect it will take a season or two for him to develop.

Mecca
04-28-2007, 03:55 PM
I think one thing is all of Bowe's flaws are fixable.....he has a great size/speed combo.

Rain Man
04-28-2007, 03:55 PM
Top five left for the Chiefs

1. DT Alan Branch (who should be a Chief right now)
2. WR Dwayne Jarrett
3. DT Demarcus Tyler
4. WR Sidney Rice, who I know nothing about
5. DT Marcus Thomas, who I know nothing about

Fairplay

I like the pick. Bowe will be a solid reciever for us.

We need a big, physical wide out threat.

shakesthecat
04-28-2007, 03:57 PM
I can live with this pick. Bowe should be able to step in and challenge Parker for #2, and will abuse most nickels at #3 if he doesn't.

I'd like an OL in Rd2, please.

Mecca
04-28-2007, 03:58 PM
Alan Branch is a run stuffing 340lb DT........that isn't a fit for Herm's D. He want's smaller penetrating type DT's.

I know Jarrett is taller but in Bulk Bowe is bigger....I think Bowe actually weighs more while not being as tall.

Does Bowe have the potential to be this team's number one receiver?

Reaper16

I like the pick. It's unexciting, but a good pick. Hopefully the concerns about Bowe's hands are exaggerated, and that he has the capability to adjust to the league quickly.

I think so, he can be a "complete" WR.......size speed. It's who you listen to honestly. Todd McShay loves the guy called him a top 10 talent.

It's not that he has bad hands, he body catches to much. That's why his flaws are fixable, you can teach someone to not body catch.

Gil Brandt: To me, if you put No. 88 on him, you're getting Michael Irvin. The similarities of these two players are quite prominent. Bowe will run inside and move the chains on third down. He'll also make some big plays for you. He set an LSU record for touchdowns this year and many of them were on plays over 20 yards. He's not going to drop many passes. They discovered he has an eye problem and has been fitted with contacts. He runs faster than his timed 4.5 speed.

I may be able to live with this pick (although I think Carl screwed up not trading down with Chicago).

I think you may be a little hard on him. Perhaps your love for the Gators is clouding your objectivity for a player from a rival? Bowe had 12 TDs and nearly 1000 yards last season. That hardly qualifies as a guy who can't catch and run routes.

31) Chicago - TE Greg Olsen, Miami.

Olsen is a terrific value pick at this point, and though the Bears have Desmond Clark, he's slightly older and not a downfield threat. Olsen might be just the player who can make Rex Grossman settle down and reach his potential.

Jesus H. Christ, how did the Patriots get a first rounder next year out of that? Come on.

Well, they gave up a 1st, so obviously they're going to either need a high 2 and another 2 next year or something, or, as they did, a 4th and a 1st next year.

Unfortunatley, Niners will be better, especially in the sucky NFC, so I figure it's a late teens type of pick probably. Definitely not top 10 or anything.

jesus, are the Patriots the luckiest team in history?

how come no one ever throws picks at us?

Not luck. It's not just being smart, etc., but it's NOT feeling any pressure to win NOW. Nearly every team in the NFL has that pressure. Being able to trade a 1st this year for "only" a 4th, BUT then get a 1st enxt year as a kicker, isn't something alot of teams can do.

Especialy when you consider not many teams had 2 1sts this year.

Keep in mind -- we had 2 1sts this year because we lost a very good player in Deion Branch.

I agree. Make it down to 12 minutes, instead of 15.

Of course, the other thing is that the teams, this year, really really took their time in the 15 minute slot. Historically, they usually make the announcements around the 5-6 minute slot.

Now it's just at the 2-3 minute slot.

Yes, but we have to because everyone else picks off our top assistant coaches and players. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, because it's far better to win and get raided than to lose and be ignored.

And honestly, I'm of the opinion that BB/SP is the best at drafting since JJ was in his prime.

Brady as a 6th round pick is honestly luck. But other than that, for the MOST part (nobody is perfect), our trades have worked out well for us, and our picks have been consistently good, especially in the early rounds.
