The Dolphins should complete a trade for Kansas City quarterback Trent Green before the end of this weekend's NFL Draft, a source said Friday.

The negotiations, which began in late February, most likely will conclude Sunday, the source said. The developments signal a change in Kansas City's steadfast demand for a second-round pick in return for the 36-year-old, two-time Pro Bowl quarterback.

The draft's first three rounds will be completed today, with the final four rounds Sunday.

The Chiefs now would settle for the Dolphins fourth-round selection (No. 108 overall) for Green, according to ESPN's John Clayton. Miami has offered Kansas City a late-round pick since Day One for Green, but the Chiefs reportedly have asked for as much as a second- and seventh-round pick.

Once the teams complete the deal, Miami will turn to the issue of quarterback Daunte Culpepper's future with the team.

Culpepper, who stands to make $5.5 million in 2007, continues to rehabilitate a major injury to his right knee he suffered in November 2005. He aggravated the injury last September and had another procedure performed in November to remove a piece of cartilage.

With rumors spreading that he would be traded or even released, Culpepper sent an e-mail to The Post and other media outlets Thursday to express his frustration and belief he will return to full health this off-season.

Green, who turns 37 on July 9, also has a history of injuries. Last season, he missed eight games because of problems caused by a concussion.

Get it done. if he somehow gets a 4th, then thats great. So many people just wanted to off him for nothing. Its just a damn waiting game. Chiefs arent in any hurry.

"Everyone around the league really respects Carl."

Yes, they respect the fact they can bend him over his desk and f**k him on every deal.

No. This is my commentary on Carl sticking it to the Fish on Green. I just wanted to stave off the "everyone around the league respects Carl" posts.

All I wanted from the start was at least a 4th rounder. I would have settled for anything because the other option was to just release him. A second was way to much for his age and last years injuries. Get it done Carl.

I'm just waiting for the Dolphins to draft a day one quarterback and tell Carl to go f himself.

If Russell and Quinn are gone before Miami's 1st round pick, I'll be a little bit disappointed if the Chiefs don't get a 3rd round pick for Green, given the remaining options that Miami reportedly has for their QB position this year.

no doubt

we don't have a 4th, getting a high 4th would be HUGE

A 2nd would be huge; a 4th would be satisfactory, although I guess their pick is so high it is nearly a 3. In any case, I hope we do something worthwhile with the pick, unlike the last few years:

2006- none
2005- Craphonso Thorpe
2004- a) Samie Parker, b) Jared Allen
2003- Brett Williams
2002- Omar Easy
2001- a) Monty Beisel, b) George Lane
2000- Frank Moreau

The Dolphins offered us a 7th round pick.

If we get a 4th, Carl caved?

ESPN.com's Michael Smith says that the Browns are likely to draft Joe Thomas.

Smith believes that Brady Quinn is going to fall to the ninth pick at Miami. Minnesota looks to be committed to Tarvaris Jackson. NFL Network's Adam Shefter also reports that the Browns have zeroed in on Thomas.

Would Tampa Bay pass on Quinn? Who are they (reportedly) after?

FYI:

I've been told that Trent to Miami is a "done deal," but that it might not happen today, more likely tomorrow. No word on the specific picks, though the last I heard the Dolphins still haven't come off of their initial offer (which is ludicrous, but whatever). Of course, anything can happen. If there's anything my "unique" perspective has given me on the inner workings of the NFL, it's that no one really knows what the hell is going on except for the front offices. Half the time, they don't really know what's going to happen, either.

Miami just drafted a QB with their 2nd. John Beck. I doubt this changes anything, just putting out the info.

As usual blueballs, or whoever he really is, is a dipshit - Marty Booker is a fine receiver, so is Chambers - Ronnie Brown is fair only. He'll be fine there, except blueballs was correct about one thing - they need better O-linemen

Some say he was the 3rd best QB in the draft and can start if he needs to

I just really, really hope that Cam actually lets him audible. I'd love, for once in his career, for Trent to be on an offense where he has some control at the LoS, not just lipservice to how smart he is.

I'd actually love that as well. Though Trent won't be around, I'd like to see him find success in Miami, and that's one thing that always irked me about our offense.
