Compares To: Montae Reagor, Indianapolis Colts McBride lacks the bulk and brute strength to split double teams working at tackle, and lacks the sustained speed to be an effective edge rusher Like Reagor, he plays with a high motor and it is his versatility that will earn him a roster spot He has the potential to be a good situational player, but he doesn't have the power you look for at the point of attack His good hand usage lets him slip single blocks and he shows a good spin move to be effective on outside stunts.

This guy's career has been defined by his character, and his motor. Work ethic should be the last thing we worry about with this guy.

It seems that one factor plays into Herm's DL decisions more than anything: motor.

Jared Allen. Hali. Wilkerson. Boone. Reed. And now McBride. Herm seems to cling to all of these players tightly because of their relentlessness, natural talent be damned.

On the negative hand, you pass up a lot of that natural talent and ideal measurables. On the positive hand, you are building a DL that will go any place on the field at any time to do any thing. Ideally, it's ferocious. Cynically, it's a road to hell paved with the best of intentions.

Tank Tyler was regarded at one point as a first round prospect. We must think pretty highly of Turk to take him over Tyler.

POSITIVES: Athletic defensive lineman whose game is on the rise. Displays great quickness, gets off the snap with a tremendous first step and plays with good pad level. Rarely off his feet, effectively works his hands and shows a variety of pass-rush moves.

NEGATIVES: Undersized and easily blocked at the point. Marginally productive until last season.

ANALYSIS: Possessing a large degree of upside, McBride offers potential at a number of defensive line positions. Could develop into a two-gap defender or has possibilities as a three-technique lineman.

PROJECTION: Late Second Round

I just think moving a guy back and forth from DE to DT prevents them from buckling down and nailing down what it takes to play their position. Alot of football is rhythm and repetition. I think it ruined Eddie Freeman and I definitely think it's stunted Wilkerson's development.

His bio said he played RT too? Is he our O-line pick???

JK.

Good points Htismaqe, I only hope that four games at DE will be a good warm up and not what you said.

Did you guys see how King Carl grabbed Herm as if to say "don't shake your head no" when he said that Kendrell Bell will play some end as well? Good stuff

I just think moving a guy back and forth from DE to DT prevents them from buckling down and nailing down what it takes to play their position. Alot of football is rhythm and repetition. I think it ruined Eddie Freeman and I definitely think it's stunted Wilkerson's development.

I've been saying this for years now, starting with John Browning.

I don't know Javon Kearse was pretty good as a tweener until he got injured the first time. It depends on the down and situation more than anything IMO.

Think about this.

Situation - 3rd and 10 late in the game, obvious passing down

KC lines up

Jared - DE
McBride - DT over the guard
Boone - DT
Tamba - DE

Could be a nice pass rush

uggh. I just listened to part of the interview. They want to play him at end and at tackle. That never works well. If you want a DT pick one. If you want a DE take one. I just don't get the pick. All the publications talk about how he isn't stout enough against the run as a DT and isn't quick enough for a DE. You'd think, maybe he can get some pressure as a DT but this year he had only one sack. Doesn't seem like he's really all that quick or else he'd have gotten to the QB a little more.

I hope they do better in the third.

I don't think it's a bad pick. He's a motor guy that fits the prototype for a Cover 2 3T. I agree with you though, the moving back and forth bothers me.

He sounds a lot like Wilkerson...a utility guy...hmm, I too wish they simply draft a single position...

but most success in the NFL comes from their willingness to work...if he works hard he'll be solid rotation guy for us

not sure if that is worth a 2nd though...but our 2nds always seem dumb

I give it an F with some of the other talent available.

Did you guys see the reaction when the KC media compared him to Jimmy? Kuharich starting shaking his head no and Herm almost insulted Wilkersons ability before he changed his sentence. Obviously, they think this guy is head and shoulders better than Jimmy W. at this point. We'll see.

Like?

He was probably the best option at DT still on the board. He went right about where all the pundits thought he would.

Wilkerson wasn't their pick, of course they think their guy is better.

Any pick from 55-59 and then 63-68 for starters. If they want a DT than can generate pressure take Marcus Thomas.

Tyler also spit on a ref. Forget it, Herm isn't going to be interested.

Great call, Nostradamus.

Usama Young and Quincy Black were 66 and 68. Please.

Marcus Thomas has serious character issues.
