I actually think Tyler was a bit of a steal, his talent projects him higher than he got picked.

Do you think the two DTs were projects/reaches?Maybe a bit, but they excel in different areas. From what little I know about them, they're basically opposites.

The big talented guy who gets knocked for not working hard enough, and the guy with the cliche'd "motor" who's a bit undersized. Hopefully they'll compliment one another... and if not... surely one of them will work out. (Which would fill a huge need)

Filled some obvious needs with solid players in the first and second round. Selected an obviously talented, possibly problematic, player in the third round who could end up being a steal if he gets his head right (and is not a huge loss as a late 3rd rounder).

note to DV: take risks on players late in the 3rd and 4th round.

He can catch the damn ball something Parker cant. He will be a big enough playmaker for us. Heck if our receivers can break it close to the 10 or so, with LJ and Tony we can score.

Top 5 DT? The Sporting News guide I have has him ranked 19th, and going in the 5th round. I wouldn't care that much about what one guide said if the guy wasn't also a "Tweener".

Even the glowing reviews I read about this guy called him Tennessee's "5th d-lineman", saying they would put him in when another player was hurt or underperforming. He wasn't even good enough to start for his own college team! While I know that this doesn't necessarily mean he isn't good enough to start for the Chiefs, I can't help but continue to expect better.

Just so you know, McBride had 68 tackles as the "5th d-linemen" last season. He was referred to as the "5th d-linemen" because of his versatility. He rotated all over their d-line.

I feel better then usual, but I don't if that is a good or bad thing.

Both DTs have promise and problems, we won't know anything till they play.

Bowe is a solid pick at a need position. I like it more and more.

I also like that all 3 players are from big schools and conferences...especially the two SEC picks....no "NE Arkansas Middle-West Tech" dudes...

I think they are all more likely to become AT LEAST solid contributors than any of DV's drafts, which were always boom/bust...

Honestly, it's nice to not have all the usual hair pulling and teeth nashing. And we've had some good luck on the second day, so assuming we get a pick for Green tomorrow we still have a chance of adding some quality to the squad.

Tentatively optimistic.

If we hit on these players we have solidified our DL for years with young guys across the line. We can fix our OL next year. Nothing wrong with that.

Yes it's been a good draft so far.

We finally got a big WR and the D-line has a rotation. That's pretty good.

Now if we can get a CB and some O-line help, I'd be pretty pumped.

It looks like Manual Ramirez is still available. 6'3 330. He's just a giant man.

IMHO, our first day picks will all have immediate impact this season. Jarrett will take some pressure off of LJ and make other teams respect the play-action which we had better use more.

Sims and Hicks are gone, since we have 4 DT's and 4 DE's without them. The revamped DL all but assures me that we will have more defensive TD's than last year.

Hopefully Kendrell Bell can fill in the rotation during JA's suspension

this is a solid B so far. Although it would have been glorious to get Quinn or trade his spot to Cleveland for a 1 and a 2 (where we could have gotten Jarrett and been stacked for next year), we got good value out of our picks, although I would have taken Kalil in the 2nd. Wiegmann is garbage.

I don't read it regularly, but the draft guide was on the shelf at the grocery store, so I picked it up. I know it's not that reputable, but it isn't usually that far off of the rankings that I see on various internet sites. Oddly enough, this magazine almost nailed the surprise of the day since it had the Chiefs taking Brady Quinn.

You don't rank the rounds a little more heavily at the top? Based on your grades and the fact you really want to hit a home run with that first selection, this draft should at least be a solid "B".

Sure the 2nd round pick is critical. I just don't agree with your pick weighting formula.

I think a 1st round pick is more important than all the other picks combined - even if you had double picks in every other round. So if you score that an A- your overall grade should be pretty generous.

I was hoping (if quinn didn't fall to us) that we would take Bowe in the first round. Then, when it came our turn, I got the whole sick at my stomach thing as the chiefs have really dissappointed me for most of the last several years. Last year, I thought we should have gone after a receiver first.

I'm not exactly excited about the second DT. I think that we should have started filling some other holes with early picks, particularly with the OL.

I'm okay with the draft. Not thrilled though. I preferred Meachem to Bowe. Time will tell. I didn't like the Turk pick at all. I thought we should've gotten Tank, and I'm not sure how high the Chiefs really are on him considering they drafted Turk ahead of him. I think Tank just fell in their laps so they couldn't pass him up. I'll trust that Herm knows what he's doing with Turk. Again, time will tell. I am happy we got Tank Tyler, but wonder what made the Chiefs not take him when he was projected as a 2nd rounder and Turk was projected as mid 2nd to mid 3rd. Seems they may have been able to switch those picks around and pick up the same guys.

Edit: The reason I'm not thrilled is I was hoping we'd address our need for an O lineman somewhere on the 1st day. I'm glad we picked up a receiver in round 1, I just hope we got the right one.

I think Herm has a good eye for defensive guys as was the case with bringing in Jonathan Vilma a few years ago when he was with the Jets and last year with Hali Pollard and Page so if he likes these guys chances are they're good. As far as Bowe is concerned the more highlights I watch of the guy the more excited I am the one thing I'm slightly dissapointed in is our second round choice if only Steve Smith would've fell two more spots we woulda had him and our WR game woulda been astoundingly better.

What I love about the DT's are that they are high motor guys. And they don't have some bad injury history as far as I know. To me, that already makes them better picks than Siavii and Freeman and Sims. Sims' big problem is that he has no motor.

I love drafting Bowe, because I've been banging on the drum of first round WR for years now. About time we got one...

I am pretty sure McBride will be the starter at DE opposite Hali opening day. In his interview he says that he is comfortable right now at DT, he sees himself better at DE in the long run. I think Herm and Co see it the same way and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't bulk up as much as some think he will.

I was referring to Kendrell Bell filling in the rotation while JA is on sabbatical. Then maybe backing up when he comes back or being in the rotation if he is productive.

This isn't the Vermiel offense anymore. We addressed the running part of the offense by signing two tackles in the off season. (Yeah one of them has problems with impulse control and women.) That means that running the ball will be better, not so much a home run game like 2003 but better average than last year. But to go along with that you need to have good ball fakes and a big reciever to compliment TG in catching the tough yards and in blocking. You have Parker and Kennison for speed. Therefore I think Bowe is fits better than some of the other WR on the board.

Having addressed the offense, it will never be like the Vermeil era, the defensive need was along the D-line. And you have to take numbers. In the Cover-2 you rotate the D-line often and everybody is suppose to shift were they are playing to make the offensive line uneasy in their prep. The two selections are active and work this way. I don't know if they will work out but they are the type of player you want on an active front four. Speed is more important than size especially if you are rotating players in and out. I suspect we will keep 9 D-lineman.

I'm guardedly happy with the picks. I'll save my rants about it all after we have signed the rookies and we see play.

I'll be honest, I was super-pissed when we passed on Meacham and took Bowe.

But after sleeping on it, I'm pretty good with it. Let's see what the kid can do. The lasik procedure should help with the drops, and hopefully the coaching staff can clean up his route running.

Really like the McBride pick. Will probably see more time at DE than DT. Replacement for Jared Allen next year?

Tank Tyler in the THIRD! Rock on, Carl. This guy was first round talent and dropped becuase of some off the field issues. Gotta believe that CP and Herm both feel those days are behind him, considering Herm preaches having "character" guys. Plus, he passed Krumrie's bitch-slap test with flying colors. Great value in the 3rd.

I'd say a solid B at this point.

Get that 4th from Miami, Carl.

IMO this has been a fantastic draft. Bowe was a great 1st round pick and I think he will be highly successful in this offense if we focus on getting the ball in his hands - he reminds me of an Anquan Boldin or Reggie Wayne.

McBride was a solid pick in the 2nd, but it really depends on who you listen to. There is a wide variation in how experts view him; some guys had him as a Day 2 pick, and other had him as high as the 4th or 5th DT overall. I think he will be a great in the UT role in our scheme, similar to a Montae Reagor type. He can also play end, and that versitility will come in handy. A guy that still has a ton of upside.

Of course, like just about everyone else on here, I loved the Tank pick. I wasn't sold on him for the 1st round, and I was a bit iffy in the 2nd round, but his value in the 3rd is fantastic. He has the size and ability to develop into a premier DT in this league. If he can continue to work hard, we could end up with a total steal.

It appears we are sticking with our board rather than drafting on need, which is exactly what we should be doing. The talking heads may try to rip us because we have ignored the o-line so far, but we are in a rebuilding mode and we need talent everywhere, not just in one unit.

Great draft so far, let's hope it continues today!
