View Full Version : So.....will CP get Miami's 4th Round Pick for Green?

Mr. Kotter
04-28-2007, 10:59 PM
I'm thinking "yes" at the moment....

I mean, Beck needs time to sit on the bench; a year or two of watching Green is just the ticket, IMO. He could be a good QB.

However, if Miami refuses to budge....I honestly, say, screw it; keep Green as long as we can....depending on cap considerations, if we got the money....keep Green as an insurance policy....it's not as if he hasn't earned that money, IMO, anyway.

Plus, THEN we still screw the Dolphins. :)

So, what will happen??? :hmmm:

Hold on to him. Some QB on a conteder will be injured in training camp or the first couple weeks of the season. We'd get at least a 3rd or a 4th in next year's draft for him then. Assuming we can handle his cap number.

Mr. Kotter
04-28-2007, 11:06 PM
Honestly....if they don't give us a 4th for him; I say Green comes to camp with us....and competes for the job (assuming there is cap room). The guy has earned his money. He could surprise us, win the job...and give Croyle another year to get ready.

With the increased cap, this would seem to be a good year for it... :hmmm:

It's just that it's time to move in a different direction. I'd think Trent would understand that. I hope he does, anyway. He's one of my favorites. The guy was a good soldier, and a great QB. Gave us plenty of good memories.

I think the chances are pretty good for the 4th round pick. If Miami refuses to give it up I hope we hold on to him. cdcox makes and interesting point on trading him during camp or early on. At worst we see what he has left during camp and possible give Croyle some more time to develop before being thrown into the fire.

Because Green is STILL the best proven QB on our roster; pay him his contract....out of gratitude for his contributions (like Priest)....and let him compete. What's the real harm in giving Croyle the benefit of another year of watching Green? In a year the cap may allow it....

THERE IS NO NEED TO TRADE FOR GREEN.

They have a vet on roster and youth to learn under him now.

There is no longer a need to even look at Green as a free agent. None.

Is that vet Lemon? Don't really see Culpepper as a viable mentor. They could defiantly use a good vet starter for at least a year or two while Beck develops. On the other hand if they want lowball us on Green we can use him in the same capacity for a year.

Nothing...

It's called leverage in negotiations.

If they call "bluff;" we stick it to 'em.....keep Green. And they go into the season opener with Cleo Lemmon as their QB. And we actually have a better chance of winning a few more games next year IMHO, because Green is still our best QB. And we screw the Phins in the process, and appear to take the high road by giving Green his money.

The only way we "lose" in this scenario is dollars paid...to Green.

NOTE: If it truly inhibits our signing of someone who could REALLY help our team next year, THEN you cut Green before you pay his salary....and leave the Phins with MINIMUM time to work with him.

JMHO.

Great. I hope it happens.

I'm comfortable with Huard and Croyle fighting it out. I like either of them starting.

But it's obvious Miami hasn't given up on the raw talent Crotchpopper had pre-injury. They also drafted a very solid prospect.

By trading for an aged QB at this point they only prolong the process of finding the next franchise QB...

If we can unload Trent for their 6th string practice squad kicker I say get the deal done. Let's act like hard asses though, say we won't accept anything but a 4th rounder, then a 5th rounder, but if it gets to the 7th round, just take the 7th round pick and move on. Not too sure Green staying is a good thing if they want to move forward with the 'youth' movement....As another poster stated a few days ago, the Chiefs have been putting off the rebuilding mode for over a decade. Perhaps its time. As a die hard Chief's fan, I always feel they are 1 or 2 players away from the Superbowl...As 'kommen cence' sets in, it's prolly time to blow up the roster.... :banghead:

Well I disagree that post concussion Trent is better than the other two guys we have on the roster but lets say you're right in that Trent is better.

How much longer could he being better last? The guy is down to about 2 years left in the league. Who knows what level he will be at?

I don't know how you can say that there is no need to trade for Green. The Air Coryell offense is the most complicated offense run in the NFL!!! There is no way that Culpepper, Lemon, or Beck will ever figure it out in thier first or even 2cd year. The Dolphins are built to win now in much the same way the Chiefs were built to win during Dick's era, which is to say that they aren't really built to win at all.

They can't compete with the elite teams in the AFC, or even in their division.

With Trent they might finish ahead of the Jets in their division, although I think even that is unlikely.
They certainly won't win the division over the Pats.

Even if they finish second in the division and find themselves in the playoffs, they will not advance.

If the Dolphins want to achieve that same medicrity level that the Chiefs have been stuck in for 18 years, THEY NEED GREEN.

If they want to build a team that actually has a chance to compete in the next couple of years, thay have no need for Green at all.

To me, trading for Green, regardless of compensation, is non productive and short sighted on the Dolphins part.

Is he worth being the highest-paid player on the team?

That is one of those "it depends" statements. IF he plays like I think he can this year the answer is yes. IF he doesn't then you also know what the answer to that is.

The biggest problem that I see is that we have a known quality QB in Green. Huard is adequate but I don't think he should be considered better than Green in any case. Croyle is the total unknown quantity. He could step in and be the next Joe Montana, but then he could step in and be the next KC QB that does nothing and is out of the league the next year.

There was an article in the KC Star yesterday by Pos, it was good and CP pointed out some of the aspects of Green that is overlooked. You should look it up and read it.

As far as the salary goes, the very bottom line is that KC wanted to hook TG up for an extended period and offered him the contract, he accepted and from what you see in the papers Green is standing by his side of the contract. He has been at all of the off season workouts even with the possibility of a trade looming in his future.

Where did he say that? This thread?

I wasn't on at all yesterday, so I'm quickly trying to get caught up.

If it is less than a 4th
it must be a pick next year or a player
Ricky Williams should have little/no value

If we give up Green for a fourth we still lose.

Trent is better than a fourth round pick, and it is still my opinion that he is better than the two QB's we have on the roster (that really count).

Watch the playoff game again and get back to us.

Steve McNair set the price
but he was a mistake IMO

If Sal Paolantonio is correct, Carl ain't getting a fourth for Trent. Let's hope he is wrong.

ESPN reporting that it will be "much less" than a fourth rounder. If the Chiefs want a fourth rounder it is not going to get done.

I have a feeling that teh reason they are holding back the news of a trade, if NewChiefs is right, is that it won't be a pcik this year.

It will be a a conditional next year bases on playing time.

Probably as high as 3rd or as low as a 5th, which, according to the chart is equal to this year's 4th to 6th.

Must suck to be a Dolphin fan.

Passes on Brady Quinn to waste the #9 on Ted Ginn.

Without Green, the QB's are Cleo Lemon and John Beck.

I agree keep Trent let him compete for the job and then pay him his money if we need him. He will have earned it. If Miami won't give up at least a 4th for him then move on.

Apparently the Dolphins know they are rebuilding and don't care.
