I posted this in another thread, but throught I'd throw it out there for discussion (which I'll have to join later -- got some stuff to do this morning, but I'll check back this afternoon). Please note that this was a random, pre-coffee thought I had this morning while talking to my dad about the draft.

Although I'm not ecstatic about the pick (not even close), does anyone else think they could pull a Brian Waters with him?

Waters was a DE tweener as well -- an athletic big guy on defense that really wasn't a standout, studly ass defensive player in college. As we all know, moving Waters to the other side has worked out okay. :)

I'm not saying the Chiefs should do this with McBride, but wondering if anyone else has thought they may go that route -- he's a bit small for DT, not quick enough for DE, but is athletic.

I think the Chiefs see him as a DE who just needs coaching to turn him into a fair pass rusher, and as a guy whose versatility wiil allow him to play inside on obvious passing downs.

In other words, they see him as a potential poor man's Tamba Hali.

see what you're getting at but given we need several guys to fill in the D-line rotation, I would get used to him where he's at.

I personally like big, fat 340 lb DTs.

However, it's clear that in Herm's cover 2 scheme, he's looking for high motor, versatile guys.

The cover two requires more nimble, athletic guys to put pressure on the QB and this guy should be able to do that when he's moved to the inside on 3rd downs.

I see him adding 20 lb's in the next year or two and staying right where he is as a DT. Hopefully a poor mans Warren Sapp.
