Crosby is only rated higher because they think he can kick 70 yard FG's his accuracy isn't always there.....

The only thing in anyones mind or report that makes Crosby better is the fact that they think he can make ridiculously long FG's.

No kidding. I know that the Denver paper is homeristic, but a month ago they were interviewing him and talking to him about previous kickers who had gone in the first round. They were clearly talking about him being the #1 kicking prospect with no one else even close. Did they discover at the combine that he's using a corked leg or something?

Excellent. Two left-footed kickers on the team. Now if we attempt a 62-yarder against the Bears and it falls short, Devin Hester will probably fumble the kick and we'll score a TD.

1st round was shot after this year's performance, slight chance it happened if he came out after his junior year because people would expect more of the same, so there was some overhype from both the Rocky and Post. I still thought he would have been 1st day, with the 4th being the latest he would go.

Wish Denver still had another pick somewhere, I'd love for them to draft him.

I watched the College Football Skills Competition on ESPN a couple weeks ago and Medlock was extremely impressive. He showed a stronger and more accurate leg than Crosby. The ease in which Medlock was able to kick 50 yarders was impressive. Unless Crosby was really hungover from a hard night or something then I would definiely say the Chiefs took the best kicker in the draft.

NFL Network talked about Crosby's slip. They said that during his workouts, he couldn't elevate the ball when he kicked it, and when he could elevate it the ball wasn't going through the uprights.

They blamed it on Colorado sending him out to try 55+ yard kicks all the time, saying it screwed up his mechanics because you have to kick those long ones differently.

News flash ... can't believe I'm agreeing with GoChiefs, but on this pick he is exactly correct. On the Chiefs site they list his 72 kickoffs averaging 61.6 yards. So, if my math is correct that will be around the 5 yard line. I believe Tynes was that good??? So, why pick a K????

It doesn't matter. Once November and December roll around, the temps drop, and the "K" ball takes over. Can you extract Tynes' kickoff stats from December and January? At home?

Tynes was bombing the ball early in the season when the leaves were turning and the weather was great.

I don't think any kicker can consistently get the ball to the goal line in KC in cold weather. That's why it's so important (especially with Herm ball) to have a deadly accurate kicker.

Hopefully Medlock will be that guy.

From John Clayton:

4. Perhaps the biggest upset of Day 2 was that UCLA kicker Jaustin Medlockwent ahead of Mason Crosby of Colorado as the top kicker in the draft. Medlock went in the fifth round to the Chiefs. Crosby went to the Packers in the sixth round and was actually the third place-kicker selected. Crosby was considered one of the best kicking prospects in years. Heading into the offseason, most people thought he could go as high as the second round. The first sense Medlock could beat out Crosby came at an ESPN skills competition in Florida. Medlock showed more consistency with his stroke and was better on the long field goals. Crosby didn't kick that well at the combine, but most of the place-kickers didn't do as well in Indianapolis. Some wondered if Crosby was a benefactor of the thin air in Colorado. Regardless, Medlock won because of his smooth stroke.
