He ran it on water, though, so you gotta cut him some slack.

OT Mike Otto, DB Courtney Brown, or Irons would be fine with me

DT Walter Thomas

History tells us that any of the o-lineman you draft are unlikely to even be on the team 2 years from now anyway....and Thomas is at least as big of a freak for a defensive tackle as Calvin Johson is at wideout....just donesn't have any game film.....a 370 pound defensive tackle who can do back flips and run a 1.65 ten yard dash is a guy you gotta take a look at though.

Unfortunately, 370 pounders DT's don't fit in Cover 2 Defense.

Ooooh...I forgot about him. He could be a good strong side LB for us and a backup MLB until he's needed. He's not very big, but has more heart than anyone and a non-stop motor.

We should get a punter or a RB - maybe a LB but whatever they do, do not draft an offensive lineman.

That's a myth. There is no difference between cover 2 defense and any other 4-3 defense with respect to the lineman. There tends to be less blitzing, which means your front 4 need to create pressure, but the responsibilities don't really change. A 4-3 defense will have 2 DTs...one is the nose tackle and the other is called a 3-technique. The 3-technique will line up over the outside shoulder of the guard and his job is to penetrate. He is usually smaller and quicker. That's a role you hope someone like a Turk McBride might be able to fill with his quickness and speed. The nose will line up between the center and guard on the opposite side and his job is to occupy 2 blockers and collapse the pocket. The bigger and stronger he is the more success he will have and the better your defense will be.

Imagine having an ultra quick penetrating 3-technique ala Tommy Harris on one side and a big strong pocket collapsing nose like Jamal Williams or Casey Hampton on the other side.

It depends on whether you play 1-gap or 2-gap up front. Alot of Cover 2 defenses use 2-gap (like we did under Greg Robinson) so you want to have athletic guys that can beat 1-on-1 blocking. In a 1-gap scheme, you want your 3-technique penetrating the backfield while your NT eats up a double-team. Even though we run Cover 2, Gunther likes to run 1-gap schemes up front. I think the combo of Turk and Tank could be potentially very good.
