Bush at a press conference on Saturday:

Q: And on the deadline [for Kosovo independence]?

Bush: In terms of the deadline, there needs to be one. This needs to come — this needs to happen. Now it’s time, in our judgment, to move the Ahtisaari plan. There’s been a series of delays. You might remember there was a moment when something was happening, and they said, no, we need a little more time to try to work through a U.N. Security Council resolution. And our view is that time is up.

Bush at a press conference on Sunday:

Q: Thank you, Mr. President. Yesterday you called for a deadline for U.N. action on Kosovo. When would you like that deadline set? And are you at all concerned that taking that type of a stance is going to further inflame U.S. relations with Russia? And is there any chance that you’re going to sign on to the Russian missile defense proposal?

Bush: Thanks. A couple of points on that. First of all, I don’t think I called for a deadline. I thought I said, time — I did? What exactly did I say? I said, “deadline”? Okay, yes, then I meant what I said.

At which point assembled reporters started laughing at him.

Kevin asked, “[I]s it really too much to ask the president of the United States to take his own policies seriously enough to actually know what they are?”

Apparently so.

ROFL

Has there ever been such a clueless President?

Ya, I usually stay away from Bush bashing...I like talking about issues or what not...stupid photoshops comparing him to a monkey...saying he is a complete idiot or the devil is totally uninteresting to me. The guy actually seems quite likable on a personal level.

But reading this today? Embarrassing.

But the voting public put him back in office for 4 more years. I can not tell you how disappointed I was in the American public when that happened.

Yup, I remember chilling out in my apartment on Walnut street back in the day watching the results come in. That was a pretty interesting time though. I was enrolled in a "2004 Presidential Election" class. We all just kept up on what was going on...educated ourselves on issues and did some in class debating...or fighting...it was a bit of both. Unfortunately that says almost as much about the quality of candidate the Democrats put up to face him as about the electorate. Unforturnately both parties are putting up putrid candidates this time around as well.

I took the same class, with similar results.

Meh. Bush does plenty of stupid sh*t, but I don't see this as being that significant. He's always said that there should be a timetable on Kosovo, yes?

Sounds like he just diplomatically misspoke and said what he really wants.

It never fails to amaze me how far people are willing to stick their heads up Bush's ass just so that they can "be right" about him.

/repeat post, still valid.

The contrary is also true, of course.

I just don't see this as "Bush doesn't know his own policy" as some seem to think. He f*cked up and said something undiplomatic. Does anyone think that Bush is a master of diplomacy or the English language? I certainly do not.

Then again, at least he isn't trying to figure out what the meaning of the word 'is' is...

Lord don't ask him I don't think I could survive listenting to the answer.
