Elarton and Wells can exchange war stories later.

He was pretty good for the Braves about three years ago. Actually had an ERA under 5 the last couple years too, which would be a step up for us, although now he's in the AL. Worth a shot anyway.

I like this signing. It keeps us from bringing someone up that isn't ready. He's actually been a decent pitcher before, so maybe he can be a #4 or 5 starter for the next couple of years (assuming his injuries are behind him).

what ..... he's 34 and has only been in the majors for 3 years.

that doesn't sound good.

but like Kev said ... at least that keeps us from bringing up someone not ready.

i still wanna know what they hell they are doing with Butler.

Me too! DH? They sure don't want him as a liability in the field.

I think the Butler thing is that they didn't want to have to screw with adding/removing someone from the 40 man roster. Aviles and Brazzell aren't on the 40 man. Bell said they didn't think one week of pinch hitting would hurt Butler's development (he'll be the DH next week). Not saying it's right, but that was Bell's explanation.

He's been in the majors a lot longer than three years:

He's okay. Don't jump up and down or anything.

He wasn't bad for the braves, worth a shot and could be a solid #5

This guy is very streaky. I've seen him pitch several games. He may throw a shut-out per. season. But may get lit up several times. Mix in a couple of close games.

Run of the mill. Decent command/mound-presence. No major weapon though really.

Do we expect to find a major weapon for free in June? He should be better than Elarton....that's about all you can ask for at this point.

Yeah he should be good for 4 or 5 wins. IMO.

And say, 7 or 8 losses, with a ERA of 4.77? :D

He may surprise everyone. I don't see more than that many wins though. He hurt himself pretty bad last year. I want to say it was his shoulder. I'm not certain it was his shoulder.

Dang it, I was thinking about Justin Thompson. Didn't he have a good curve ball?
