Cowher the next Browns coach?

Paying attention to Internet rumors is seldom wise, but the Bill Cowher-to-Cleveland rumblings officially have begun in that realm.

A Pittsburgh columnist added some fuel last week, addressing whether Cowher, the former Steelers coach, would consider returning to the league as coach of the Browns in '08.

According to the rumor, Cowher is said to have engaged in "secret" talks with the Browns, Panthers and Redskins.

Farfetched as that part probably is, Cleveland might be a logical landing zone for Cowher, who played for the Browns from '80-82 and was an assistant coach with the team from '85-88.

Expect the drumbeat of speculation only to intensify, especially if the Browns break from the gate 1-3.

I believe I made this very comment months ago... if Cowher indeed wants to coach again, the Browns will make him the highest paid coach in the league to return.

Nothing like going to coach your former teams biggest rival.

and getting slapped around by your former team every year. I guess money does that for some people.

If Romeo struggles this season, I would not be surprised by this in the least. Bill will be a very wealthy man...

I think the ground is already rumbling in Pittsburgh over this news.

Romeo is going to get the hook real fast. John Clayton visited Browns' minicamp and said their offense looked meager. Nobody could catch a pass. I can't believe people have Winslow rated so high on their fantasy boards. They need to sign Quinn fast.

I heard he was going to star in a modern-day remake of "Spartacus".

Like Carls ego would allow Cowher to come to KC...

NO freaking way would Carl put up with a Coach that is strong willed and hard headed like him...

Going to Browns for $$$ only to have frustration.

Better off with a chance of winning somewhere else.

Chinny Chin Chin would do well with the 'Skins. High profile job and all.

I just hope he stays out of the AFC. His teams are typically far too competitive for my taste.

He'd be great for that terrible Redskins franchise. I don't know if there's really a more ass-backwards front office in the league.

I desperately hope he doesn't end up in Carolina. That team's usually good enough without his influence.

Unquestionably, Mr. Direckshun. Another great example of why your bust is in the Poster Hall Of Fame. Oh, and a statue of your head, too.

Chinny Chin Chin could potentially rip the NFC a new one with all that money behind him and his love for smashmouth football.

I would love for him to take over the cardinals, or the falcons. Neither of those teams have a shot in hell of winning anything any time soon. Just in case we make it all the way.
Of course if we did make it to the SB this year - pigs would fly, Kansas City would have decent roads, and the Royals would play .500 ball. I'd be worried about the pigs a little, but life is full of tradeoffs. Small price to pay. a few planes crashing due to collisions with porcine projectiles, and every once in a great while you step outside and get hit on the shoulder with pigshit.

I posed this question to the one million squealer fans in the office and you could see their facial muscles getting tense while they were responding it will never happen, he won't tarnish his legacy like that or the other denial talking points they had. They have no clue what money will make a man do.
