Apologies to trndobird who just did a poll, but I was curious if the results would look different if we had instant runoff elections.
I'll give it one week.
You get to vote for three candidates. Vote once in the first choice candidate column, once in the second choice section and once in the third choice column. People who vote more for more than 3 candidates or more than once in a section will have their votes discarded like so many hanging chads. (*edit* also do not vote for the same candidate more than once)
Your First Choice gets three points, Second Choice Gets Two and Third Choice gets 1.
So if my ballot is :
1)Fidel Castro =3
2)Bill Richardson =2
3)Dennis Kucinich =1
and patteeu's ballot is
1)Darth Cheney=3
2)Bill Richardson=2
3)Ken Lay, risen from the dead=1
then Bill Richardson, with a total of four points is the winner.

trndobrd, I forgot about dbl voting, post your 2nd and 3rd, if you want it to count. Otherwise, I'll credit Ron Paul with one 2nd and discount your 3rd vote. I knew I forgot something. :cuss:

Sorry it's Paul or bust for me.
All three.
Sorry it's Paul or bust for me.
All three.
If Florida is truly a swing state, and Rudy is the nominee for the Repubs, would you still write-in for Ron Paul?

I DEFINITELY won't vote for any Pub other than Paul.
My fellow Pubs need to be punished for being bad.
This may be the only way for them to mend their ways, and then relaunch.
I'm considering writing Paul in...but I'll have to see if it looks like the Pubs are leading for what I'll have to do.

That's okay, I'll just count your first vote then, per the OP.
Of course, since i'm such a nice guy, I'll let you post a change if you want your 2nd and 3rd to still count. :D

WTF? Who made this abomination of a poll? If you want to cast a vote for Newt Gingrich, you'd better make him your first choice because he's not available as a 2nd or 3rd. And if Mitt Romney is your first choice, you have to decide whether you prefer Mitt or Mitt. And after reading the OP, I was very disappointed that I didn't even have the option of picking Darth Cheney or a resurrected Ken Lay at all. Rainman makes this stuff look so easy. :p
FTR, I voted for:
1) Mitt Romney (the first one)
2) Rudy Giuliani
3) Fred Thompson

Giuliani has ‘a good story to tell’
The head of a conservative group that advocates lower taxes and limited government thinks the radio ads presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani began airing today in Iowa and New Hampshire offer a good political strategy for widening his appeal to Republican voters.
Pat Toomey, president of the Club for Growth, said the former New York City mayor is correct to highlight his record as a fiscal conservative.
“He’s got a good story to tell about limited government and economic freedom and supply side tax cuts,’’ Toomey said in a telephone interview. “The story is based on his experience as mayor and he alludes to that story in these ads. I think these are strong ads.’’
Toomey’s group does not endorse candidates, but it is issuing white papers examining the economic record of the GOP candidates for president. A paper on Giuliani was issued in May. Another on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be issued soon.
The former New York City mayor already has the attention of national security conservatives within the Republican Party. And voters who are conservative on purely social grounds won’t support him because of his position on abortion, gay rights and other similar issues.
But there is a third category of conservative voter – economic conservatives – where he can make inroads.
“He has strong appeal to national security conservatives and what he is trying to do is grow his strength among economic conservatives,’’ Toomey said. “I do think that is a very plausible strategy for him.’’
One radio ad says Giuliani restored fiscal discipline to the city. Another says he lowered taxes and the city’s revenue rose. And the third says during his time as mayor the welfare rolls dropped, crime fell and the budget went from deficit to surplus.

Now, if we could only convince everyone else in the country NOT to vote...
