View Full Version : Your feelings on pornography...

I'm a bit curious about your perspectives on pornography, especially with regard to porn sites. My curiousity was raised when I wondered what kind of site 1st lady runs...

So then, I wondered to myself, what do all of you think about such things. After all, we debate abortion to no end. So how about porn. Aren't these debates very similar?

With exception to the whole child porno thing, I think it is individual responsibility.

Porn is destructive. Which is not to say I favor the government telling me what I can view or not view.

I think it is degrading to women and I get offended when I find that my husband has been looking at porn

I feel like maybe I am not good enough for him that he has to look at other women

LIkewise, I hate music that calls women hoes and ******* and such...

porn has helped my wife and I get along better . . . nudge, nudge, wink, wink

Luz, I didn't say 1st Lady's site was pornographic... At first I thought she was pimping her site to sell porn... But I was wrong... But it did raise questions in me about what folks think about porn and what I think about it myself...

I think I'll plead the fifth on porn. (doh... I've already imcriminated myself)

However, I think porn -sites- are evil. WAAAAYYY too many pop-up ads. You spend more time either switching your browser settings and/or closing ad windows than you do enjoying the porn. The sites mentioned in another thread are prime examples of this.

Why use porn sites when you can get it much easier and more anonymously via Usenet?

"I think it is degrading to women and I get offended when I find that my husband has been looking at porn

Although I find porn offensive to me, your comment reminded me of a situation with a family who lived in the neighborhood I lived in a few years back.

The wife was cleaning out the garage and found the husbands stash of pornographic magazines and proceeded to kick him out of the house for having "trash in the house that the kids might accidently find".

She filed divorce papers and had them delivered to him at his favorite hangout(a sports bar). He decided to get even and hired a private detective to tail her and get some dirt.

In his investigation he found out the lady was working during the day as an "outcall" masseuse that was fronting for a call girl ring. A week later she was busted along with the operators for solicitation. When she was questioned as to why, after giving her husband such a hard time , she was doing what she was doing, she said:

"Well he wasn't paying any attention to me so I needed the gratification that he couldn't give me. Besides, I needed the money to pay for my drug habit."

What is interesting to me, as a man, is that some women wail endlessly about porn magazines and their effect on men, but say very little about nude (and many times explicit these days) loves scenes in many movies these days.

Just an observation....

I think as long as women engage in events such as beauty contests, etc, where they are judged on their looks and bodies, this will always be around.

And of course, women willing to take their clothes off for money might have something to do with it.

If I one day have a child who watches too much violence on television, too much on the radio or music, and too much on the internet, and one day when they are older becomes a killer, I would feel the lowest scum on earth.

If I one day have a child who watches too much pornography on television, on the radio or in music, or on the internet, and one day when they are older has sex as a result.....

They would still be a fairly normal member of society.....

I looked and I puked. Whom ever finds that sort of thing sexy has serious troubles.

If my daughter's husband needs to look at women pooping to get excited before he has sex with her, I would personally cut it off and he would not need to see sights like that again.

I don't mind an occasional look at playboy and such but people please...watching a woman shoot out poop...come on get real that isn't sexy that is perverted

Do you have daughters????????????? Would you want to see your daughter do that?????

Would you enjoy that fact that your daughters husband got off on things like that??????????????

Three posts...

How do you really feel?

sorry Pam, I couldn't resist

If you don't like it, don't look at it. It really pisses me off when others try to tell me what I can and can't do based on their feelings.

WOW....that felt good!

I don't like porn. Heck, there's a lot of things I don't like, like cigarette smoking. I just don't believe that "prohibition" works.

What works is raising our kids to know right and wrong. I have a daughter. I don't want her appearing in a porn magazine or porn site. I can't stop that when she's an adult. She will have to make her own choices.

Hopefully, I will have raised her well enough to believe in herself and avoid being used by these bastards...

What a strange society we live in.

To show someone being shot, stabbed bludgeoned to death is a common occurrence is just part of our every day TV entertainment. To show naked people is obscene. No wonder our society is F#$%ed-up.

For those of us that have lived in Europe, what you just said makes perfect sense.

Sex is a perfectly normal part of life. Why is porn so huge? Because men like to look at women and women like to be looked at...period. It's nature. If women weren't meant to be looked at, God would have made them look like water buffaloes...

Now I'm not saying that all women want to get naked in front of a camera, but even in it's basic sense, it's true.

Come on, Pam. Don't tell me you wear burlap sacks to work, or to bed. EVERYBODY wants to look good.

I just find it striking (not to mention pathetic) that a XXX movie with 4 sex scenes in it is FAR WORSE than a movie like "Friday the 13th: Part Whatever" that depicts graphically the murders of over 2 dozen young people.

It's ok, show us your intestines, or your brains. Just don't show us your *****...

Hey, Fly, that's a noble idea - personal responsibility?

Repression breeds angst and naivete fosters a lack of inhibition. That's why the US leads all industrialized nations, per capita, in murders, rapes, unwanted pregnancy, alcoholism, etc...

To top it off, we blame the porn industry because we can't trust our husbands, we blame the gun manufacturer because our kids shoot people, and we blame McDonald's (to the tune of several million dollars) because we spilled hot coffee in our laps.

BIG DADDY loves porn but doesn't get into any of the sick stuff. Outside of child porn I am not exactly sure what the problem is. There will always be sickos whether there is porn or not.

Why is it when a guy does porno nobody has a problem with it, but when a women does, she is being exploited? What is the difference?

I for one was very very disappointed with this poll. I kept going over the choices and realized they all say porn sucks. Where's the vote for "Porn ROCKS!!!"?

I belive that kids shouldn't have access to pornographic or even overly suggestive material. I'm sure there are people who like Guns (sorry, not my thing), who don't think kids should have access to them either. BTW, you should never let any child have unmoderated access to the internet. They should not have a PC in their room, it should be in a public place, and you should probably lock the keyboard up when you aren't around. The internet is full of a lot worse than porn sites.

05-07-2001, 04:59 PM
KC, I disagree with you totally! There were two questions, one that said "porn is fine"... sounds pretty positive to me. The other that said "porn is left to individual responsibility" which was basically porn neutral...

So what exactly do you see as the anti-porn bias of the poll?

I am a college student, and pornography is a way of life here. I love it and enjoy watching it every now and again. I believe it can be viewed as an art, and should be allowed to be continued under the Miller v. Georgia Obsenity Code. It is part of our culture and freedom of speech, and we should be allowed to watch two, three or up to twenty five consensual adults have sex if they agree to be taped and recieve money for it. This is not China, Cuba nor Vietnam. This is the United States, and pornography is capitalism at its finest! Excuse me while I pay homage to our country by watching Buttslammer 6.

(In best Butthead voice): Porn is, like, cool and stuff.

Actually, there is some sick, twisted stuff out there. But as long as

1. The people are of age
2. The people are doing whatever they are doing willingly.
3. No one is forced to watch it

then it is okay. Might not be right for everyone, but repression is far worse than expression, IMO. Don't like it, don't look at it. I'm a pretty normal guy ... no water sports or anything else sick for me, thank you very much. But occassionally I like to watch two people bump uglies. And, thankfully, so does my wife (just don't tell her I said so). It's not a flaw, a sin or anything else ... just a preference.

I find the evening news much more disturbing than any of the movies I have watched in the past—er—I mean—I might watch in the future.
