As a guy, I can actually say the shopping was quite impressive **huge beer can smashes me into the ground** The forum shops at Caesars and the Fashion show mall are awesome.

I stayed at the Wynn once, and haven't stayed anywhere else since.

Phenomenal. Biggest standard room in Vegas, to my knowledge.

Best bang for your buck in the luxury category, IMO.

Avoid The Artisan. I made the mistake of staying there the one and only night I actually stopped in Vegas instead of blowing through it as quickly as possible.

Caesar's, Bellagio & Venetian are my fav's. Stayed at the Wynn last year but didn't get "it". Too gaudy for my taste.

Mandalay Bay is great

If you're staying on a tight budget, the Tropicana has decent rooms (if you're in the new area)...a huge nice pool...and it's within walking distance of MGM, New York, New York, Mandalay Bay, etc....good location for the price.

Stay away at all costs from harrah's...overpriced, smelly rooms/casino...not good.

If money is no object....Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian.

If you're young enough and want to watch amazingly hot young girls in bikinis....the Palm

If I was you.....Book through Southwestvacations.com and you can get a good deal....Try to stay away from Friday, Saturday but just for cost reasons.....

Center Strip is the best....We stayed at the IP (Imperial Palace) it is clean, right in the middle of the strip...A block from Treasure Island which is cool, you can see the water display at the Bellagio about a block away, and directly across the street from the Mirage......at a fraction of the cost...

Your never going to be in your room anyway....Why pay a high room price....

If I go back soon I want to stay at New York New York...seems like my wife and I were there most of the time anyway....Great Gambling friendly people...very cool place...

Hopefully for you....your going with another couple? Or your GF likes to gamble....otherwise she will be saying I'm ready to go shoping...wheres the mall, why do you want to gamble all the time.....

ya at the MGM when I went for a new years thing. I walked all across Vegas in the direction of the MGM Grand drunk as hell at 6am and finally found it but and as I approach the back door this security guy on a bike wheels up in front of me and asks me if I needed in and I said yes and he swipes his security card and I enter through the back door and find myself in some employee lounge and then a dressing room and some bell rings and seriously a 100 people flock to out of all the rooms and up some escalator....It's a foggy memory because it was 6am and I was drunk. But I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to be there

Seriously, unless you are really into the luxury resorts, I'd recommend Imperial Palace as well. It's not the most glamorous property, but the rooms are decent, for a good price and the location can't be beat.

I don't know anything about where to stay but you have got to check out the car collection there at the Imperial. Definitely one of the highlights of Vegas when you don't have a lot of money to blow.

Also, wife and I liked the Star Trek Experience (http://www.startrekexp.com/) at the Hilton. Of course that was a decade or so ago but still....

We do a company trip to Vegas pretty often. The boss always books the Luxor, it is kind of a fun experience and close to MGM, Mandalay Bay and NY NY. I like walking down to the Bellagio and watching that whole deal. Be sure and take her to the Venetian for a gondola ride.

There are a lot of great things to do and see in LasVegas that dont involve being around a bunch of drunk morons. Thats the value of staying in more upscale hotels. Not that they dont get a few but its less an issue.

The food in Vegas is something incredible. Set some money aside for a great dinner.

"O" at the Bellagio is pretty awesome. Don't waste your money on "Zumanity" though.

The Blue Man Group show (at the Venetian I believe) is good too.

For a fairly inexpensive place, I vote for Mirage. The rooms are nice, but not spectacular, and the pool is first class. Also a little bit more of a grown up vibe than a lot of other places.

FYI re: the Luxor, they are removing all of the Egyptian theming inside for a more modern motif.

Everything outside will remain... Sphinx, Obelisk.

Residence Inn Las Vegas Convention Center

I really prefer to stay here when in Vegas, I'm usally going for a convention and its close to the Convention Center, and also close to the strip.

The rooms are suites with their own kitchens.

Check out this site before you book. I'm sure that the Tropicana is fine. I've stayed at the Monte Carlo and it was a decent price and in a good location too.

A great message board for questions..

If you are with a girlfriend, you should check out some shows. All of the Cirque shows are pretty interesting. Go to one of the Tix4Tonight ticket booths and you can tickets last minute at about 40% off regular price.

Also, I'm not big on buffets, but for Breakfast, go to the Paris Hotel for the Le Village buffet...made to order omelets/crepes/waffles, fresh fruit, sausage, pancakes, hashbrowns, you name it for breakfast for about $12.

cool thanks alot!!!!

No problem. Let me clarify on the Tix4Tonight booths...you will need to go there about sometime around 10-12 noonish. That way you will get the best selection of shows to choose from. There are 4 or 5 booths up and down the strip. I wish I could tell you their locations, but I can't remember.

Also, that breakfast I mentioned at the Paris was the best meal we had next to the $250 we dropped on a really swank place.

MGM, but beware of the long hallways.... I hear the tours to Hoover Dam, etc are good. I've never been, but that's what I hear.

meStevo
08-28-2007, 08:45 PM
Hoover Dam tour isn't what it used to be, they no longer take you down to see the turbines, underground tunnels, etc. Only tour now is around the visitor center, and across the top of it.

Still damn cool I am sure, but not anything like my Elementary School Field Trip memories.

that is one of my favorite places on the strip...no upscale snootiness...just fun gambling...low stakes blackjack/roullette...cheap drinks..

Great place to hang out if you're tired of taking a beating in the major casinos.

Hands down best Bellagio. Little less money? New York, New York. Have lived here for three years now and make it a point once a month to stay at each hotels standards and Suites. Bellagio, has niceist rooms and staff are fantastic. If you have transportation (rental car), go to Hoover Dam take standard tour then go back into Boulder City to the Boulder City Hotel. Inside is a great interactive and more indepth history of the dams construction and development. the tour offered at the dam now are pretty weak since 9/11. The tour only takes you down to the top of the generators, big whoop. When I first came out here 9 years ago you could take a "hard hat" tour deep into the bowels of the dam. Then go out to Red Rock Canyon, beautiful and stunning. The scenic drive is about 7 miles and like a said breathtaking. Check out all the strip offerings, The Fountains at Bellagio, the volcano at Mirage, the Pirate fight at Treasure Island (T.I.), and the canals at Venitian, the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood,Ceasars Forum Shops and goDontown as well, the canopy show as well as the new bar district "Freemont East", is pretty cool. Do not use Parking Garage downtown, check car at any Valet/ Casino. The Garage is a price. Anyways, any other questions? Just ask.-TCB-Ken

I'm a firm believer that unless you're going to go all out when your in Vegas just go with the best deal you can get in any of the major hotels. The only time you spend in the room is to shower, change and sleep.

beds
clean bathroom
closet
room safe for extra money, jewelry, credit cards, place tickets etc.

That's about all you need.

Now if you're going balls to the wall and going to be partying in the room and have the money - Bellagio. Hard Rock is where the most action seems to be but it's a little overrated and a taxi ride away.
