Damn I'd like to see Lars Ulrich's response

Lars is too busy living the metal lifestyle buying 7 million dollar pieces of art to respond.

I like a few of their songs. "Hurt" and "Inside" are good. I'm a big fan of hard rock... Marilyn Manson is probably my favorite "current" artist... I don't know why I haven't gotten into NIN more.

Downward Spiral was the last I really really was into them, but I still think he's a great musician. I think the sound has become a bit dated and he needs to branch out a bit more. Otherwise, some really really amazing songs. If you doubt his ability to really cross over into other types of music, check out his instrumental, A Warm Place:

Don't forget Cash used his song Hurt, and re-tooled it and made it an amazing version himself. That video, showing Cash's life is probably one of the more moving one's I've seen in a long while.

Good for him. He knows that eventually if no one buys albums that the the record companies will have to start making the consumer happy.

The bigger problem is that most younger people down't even buy ALBUMS anymore. They just go to itunes and buy their favorite singles. Which the record companies are fine with, they still get the money from people who wouldn't normally buy the album anyways if all they wanted was one song, but they also get those of us who actually still look for that GREAT ALBUM and buy the whole thing in hopes it is just that.

But with that mind state, most new bands are also getting away from trying to put out a quality album, and only focusing on one or two good songs per record just to pander to those people with such short attention spans.

It'll never end, it will only get much worse before it gets better.

I totally agree with him, but it's easy for somebody who is already filthy rich to say that.
